When i try to initiate an install of 1.4 (incremental or full) it gives the following error message:

"Cannot find install folder for Battlefield 2(TM)."

I then tried to find the folder that bf2 is installed in; it was under just "EA\bf2", so i renamed the folder "EA GAMES" but i still get the same problem...

Any ideas on how to install it?

I installed a proxy the other day (tor) but even when it's off it still can't connect!    I never experianced any other problems with it before though...

Yeah, okay now I've got another problem...When i try to install bf2 it starts up the install setup and then crashes to desktop. So now i haven't got bf2 and i can't install it. Great!

I have given up, everytime i patch i get an error, i might install play 1.0 (Which works), but other than that, untill they fix the patcher, im done. Unless i get it to work again, i might try again.

do you use your PC for anything other than playing BF2?

If not, format the harddisk and reinstall XP, drivers, BF2 and everything.

If you do (use it for other things) BACKUP any important data files, then do the above...

Thanks Scorpian, but i managed to reinstall it on another OS and then it worked on here. However, the original problem is back and even though it is in the correct directory i still get the error message:

"Cannot find install folder for Battlefield 2(TM)."

Thanks for your help so far guys!

Any other way? i did this once before, and it took me forever to get everything back to normal.

That's freaky - unless you've changed the name of the install directory, it should install fine. If that's not the case, then I'm stumped.

Edit: have you tried downloading another copy of the 1.4 patch? If not, try that - and don't get it from the same place as you got it last time.

Well, you could try stripping out every last remnant of BF2, SF, EF and AF (if you have them) from you HDD and Registry, but unless you know what you're doing it's likely to take just as long as a full reinstall and if you don't know what you're doing you could end up having to do a complete reinstall anyway - in most cases a complete reinstall is the quickest way. There's also the fact that it may not strictly be BF2 or the patch that's at fault and tracking down what is at fault will definately take longer than a complete reinstall of everything.

Okay, mission accomplished. I'm surprised i didn't think of this before - My install worked on the other OS so maybe the patch would too? It did and now the game works fine - so thanks to Scorpion0x17 and sgt_rambo35.

No probs mate, no probs. Unlike others on these forums, I aim to help.

As the patch worked on the other install, it probably is some other piece of software screwing it up - you said you installed a proxy recently, yes? Could be that. Could be something else.

Now you've at least got bf2 working on one machine, I still recommend do a complete format and reinstall of XP and everything on the machine it's not working on - whatever is stopping the patch from working could well screw other things up in the future - as I said before, you could figure what the problem is and strip all traces of it off your machine, but the easiest, quickest, way to fix is most probably a full reinstall...

bf2 is the only pos game i've ever owned in my life that i have to reinstall the fucking thing to get a patch to work optimally. otherwise it may start, but it will crash like crazy

Ok, try this one.

I just reformatted, installed win xp.

I have installed bf2. 1.0 works, but no patches work. I have uninstalled reinstalled about 10 times now. I cannot get any patches from 1.3 or 1.4 to work.

I have looked in my start up> run> %temp% > checked the first modified file where i should have 12 or 13 files when installing the patch but i only have 10. Basicly im unable to download the patch correctly. Yes i have tried downloading from about 6 different sources.

readyyyyyyy go!!!

Uninstalled the LOT (Vanilla AND SF), reinstall both games and THEN patch. It should work (It did for me).

Oh and use the full 1.4 Patch rather than the incremental

Ok, here i go, im doing a full format. wish me luck. Ok, i just did a "destructive" Recovery. lol, it wasnt bad. Installing windows updates and gona install bf2 soon
Ohh well, ive given up on bf2, i got another patching failed thing after reformatting my harddrive. I can get SF to work but then the 1.4 thing fails. I probably wont try again.
