FIX: "Modified Content" error
The myth going around that the now infamous "modified content" error is caused by your 1337 rig loading the game too fast is false. You simply get it because some game file(s) is/are corrupted, or possible hardware faults causing problems with the verifying process. It appears to many that they loaded too fast as the usually-long verifying client data process may halt immediately in its initial stages once something is wrong.
My personal experience: I have 3 HDDs, 2 x Raptors and a 160GB drive. I went as far as un-RAID0ing my Raptors and tried installing on each HDD one by one, but the modified content problem still continued to haunt me. Reformatting also didn't help. Did memtest86 overnight, no problems with my RAMs. Did Prime95 and OCCT overnight and they both failed to find any fault with my CPU, which was then overclocked to 2.61GHz. However, after finally bringing myself to downclocking my CPU back to stock speeds, i haven't had the modified content problem for a long time now.
Try out the following steps one-by-one. Stop once you've fixed the problem, otherwise proceed to next step.
1. Uninstall your hacks, if any. *cough*
2. Cease using any No-CD cracked .EXE files. Use mini-images mounted onto Daemon-Tools instead.
3. Manually update PunkBuster with PBSetup.
4. Clear your PC of spyware and viruses. I would recommend Ad-Aware Personal and Spybot Search & Destroy for spyware treatment as well as SpywareBlaster for immunization. A good anti-virus program would be AVG Free.
5. Remove any custom maps and/or mods.
6. Do a clean uninstall of your game including manually deleting its main directory and My Documents directory. Use a program like jv16powertools to clean your registry and a hard disk defragger such as Diskeeper, then reinstall your game, followed by the expansion/booster packs (if any) and then apply the latest full patch available. Defrag once more before running your game for the first time.
7. Run memtest86 overnight to check for errors with your RAM. If errors are detected, downclock your RAMs back to stock speeds or if they are not overclocked, try swapping DIMM slots and testing out each stick one by one. Once you have identified the faulty RAM sticks, send them for RMA.
8. Run Prime95 and/or OCCT to check CPU stability (but as shown in my case "Prime-stable" may not be "verifying client data stable"). Downclock back to stock clocks if necessary.
9. Install your game on another hard disk if available.
10. Reformat.
11. Sorry, I can't help you anymore.
