ok i have a question...

i have been playing bf2 for about 5 months so my character is around 8,000 points. if i buy BF:SF will i only get a unlock when i reach my next lvl in BF2 vanilla?, which is not till 20,000 points

You will get 2 unlock per incentive....

After you play a round on any SF map you will get the unlocks.

install game
play one round of BF:SF
get 5 unlocks (SF weapons)...seeming i have 5 unlocks in BF2 Vanilla

I'm at about 31K points and I have 12 unlocks so having 10 before you rank up at 20K sounds right.  Don't buy the game just for the unlocks.  They're definitely useful and a lot of fun, but the maps in SF are great, too.  Learn to use the night vision and watch out for flashbangs and you'll do great on the night maps.  Have fun!

yes. I was at a lower rank when I bought it, but thats what happened. I played my 1 round and got my 2-3 unlocks, then I ranked to sergeant and got another 2. All this was in a 2-3 day period too, I was pretty happy :p
