Well a Intel ATX E6300 CORE 2 DUO /1.86GHz/2MB CACHE/1066FSB/LGA775 is $292AUD, but I guess if its worth it...

yes it is... if you can overclock it to 2.4ghz it will run like an AMD FX62

Would a Opteron™ 64 146 Processor S939 for $249 not do the same job?  I hear that you need liquid cooling to stop the Intels from over heating.

... no you dont... stock cooling is fine even for p4's... if you want high overclocks go water cooling. but core 2 duos run a lot cooler then its old p4 counter parts and temps are a few degrees lower

Really, cyborg, this isn't overclock territory is it?  Not unelsss he really knows what he's doing, he's not going to want to screw with the CPU and potentially fry it.  Think of it from his perspective.

Also, he didn't mistype "Core 2 Dual"... it says "Core 2, Dual DDRII 667MHz"

Get an intel core 2 duo, or an AMD, whichever you like, just make sure the motherboard matches. As for which one... I'd tend to say AMD, and it's a hell of a lot cheaper too.

If you're getting DDRII memory (which I think you are) you need to make sure the motherboard supports it. (that one does).

Post again the big list of stuff you want to get and I'll do my best to make sure it's all compatible because I can see that most people are just being confusing...

AMD also they run games better generaly. I currently have a 4200X2 running at 2.4GHz and a HIS X1600XT OCed and it runs bf2 on high with ease and that RAM dam its a good price. i have 1gig DDR400 would you guys think if my board is compatible i should upgrade to DDR2 2gig ? or just get another gig of DDR400?
