i have the X800GTO, from Sapphire (currently default to loud cooler)

budget: not more then 20 euro's.

i dislike passive cooling, so dont say i should get that

it must be quiet, and be good. i dont mind the use of heatsinks on the (videocard) ram.

also does anyone know (also googling for this one) if the cooler that comes on the HIS ATI X1600 fits on the X800GTO?


ow, and 1 thing, please, not to many fanboy posts, give information i can use not just say (for example): get a zalman.

I'm not aware of exactly how the fan on the card you posted connects to the card. But normally, you can get just about any fan, and there will be fittings for both geforce and radeon cards.
I like the Zalman for quiet operation. And with a budget of €20, you can just afford the semi copper fan. I believe the full copper version is somewhat more expensive (depending on your perfered shop ofcourse). If you intend on overclocking you WILL need the full copper version, but you get memory heatsinks and a decent cooler with the semi copper. It's cheap and quiet. I'd say gor for it.

As for passive cooling. This works fine IF you have a decent airflow in your PC. After all, the heat has to go SOMEWHERE, so dont trust passive cooling unless you have decent airflow.

the shop i prefer buying from is empc.nl , since im already buying some stuff there. (safes mailing costs)

edit: i was already looking a bit more at the zalman full copper thing, it looks nice

just a question to make sure: now the fan blocks 1pci slot, with that zalman thing it does not need more then to block 1 pci slot? (i have no other slots spare)

i would recomend the vf-700 full copper version. i had one on both my 800xl and 1800xt and it's a very good and very quiet cooler. it is pretty much inaudible on the low setting and still very quiet on the higher setting. i use the higher setting on both and it is still much quieter than the stock fan was on both and better cooling especially on the 800xl

I have a cooler for 19 euro's I thought, its a ATI silencer cooler.
look at www.artic-cooling.com maybe you will find it there, its a very good cooler, its sucks air from the case over you vid card and out of the case.

Look at the ones that the guy above me showed

Ahm.... Well, it DOES take up a little room "height" wise. But unless you have a micro or FLEX ATX board, or have a zillion interface cards, you SHOULD have enough room in your PC. It takes up ABOUT the space of one additional slot beyond the GPU slot. But on a flex board, it may be 1½ (depending on the manucfacturer). If you have troubles with the fan, you can try to run with your case open, then after a littel operation, touch the grill, and see how warm it gets. If it's not that warm (less than 40-45 celcius, you may be able to cut about a quater inch of the grill´if this will help you. Also, the full copper will lead the heat away a lot more efficiently, so you may be able to cut that one even shorter if need be.
Your best bet though would be ato ask the dealer for a refund in case of problems. Must dealers wont mind, as the good fans are easily "re"-sold.
