Ive got a core 2 duo conroe 2.4ghz should/do i need an aftermarket heatsink or is the standard intel one sufficient ???

I have a e6600, with stock cooler, runs fine
Only if you want to start overclocking you might want to consider another one

They run very cool, I would not worry about unless you plan to OC it.
