Oh fuck, help me out, Computer wont boot

So heres what happened leading up to right now

I had the computer on, I was in a rush, updating some songs to my MP3, when my Dad rushes in and tells me to get the fuck out, so I quickly just flip the switch on the power point, shutting off the computer

I was gone for around 6 hours, when I get back, I power up the computer, and turn it on, the screen flickers, and then it goes to the

Windows did not shutdown/start up correctly blah blah blah, would you like to choose an option, blah blah blah

I chose the Run normally, the windows boot screen comes up, and it makes it through two scrolls, then stops half way on the 3rd

The computer than restarts itself and repeats the choose an option screen, infinitlaly so far, I havent let it continually run because I dont want to burn anything out

This is fucked up, I need some help here please!

Let me know, what happened and how I can fix it please

I would suggest starting it in safe mode...I know when you boot up you have to hold down a certain key to make it go into safe mode...I just don't know what key it is.

Otherwise, are you getting any error messages when all this is happening? If so, go on google and search the error message (I assume since you were able to post this you have internet access).

Run it in safe mode (F8 key i think) then access system restore and restore it to an earlier time, before the bs happened.

No error message I guess, just a thing telling me that my last restart fucked up and that I should choose a mode to start in

Ive tried last good config, Normal boot, and Safe mode

Well... try boot to safe mode... if that does not work, I hope for your sake that you have some backups... else you are really screwed....

Also, worst case scenario, you can boot from your Windows cd and format the hard drive and reinstall xp, although this would delete all data from the hd.

Wait, is it possible to just boot from the Windows CD and fix it from there, or do I have to re-install and everything

Odds are ill be going to a professional, because Im getting an upgrade and Im too unsavvy with PC's yet to do it myself

Just make sure the CD drive is the 1st priority, you can set this in the BIOS, when the pc boots up it will say something like 'press any key to boot from cd' or something like that.

I think you still will need to reformat, although i am not entirely sure myself, as i am relatively new to this stuff aswell, i would wait until other people submit info for you.

Just insert your Windows XP CD, Follow instructions when you get to the setup screen. your first screen will say something like to setup windows press enter, repair using recovery console and quit. Make sure you select 'to setup windows now' accept the license agreement now you will be shown your partition (this is where your data is held.. make sure it is selected and hit R for repair.and thats it..

Edit... Sorry forgot to mention if all else fails use the first option repair using recovery console, once it is laoded type in C:\Windows (replace C with your driver letter if it is not C) Press enter, it will ask for admin password, if you dont have one or you have not messed with it, or you dont know what it is just press enter (most likly it will be blank)

That is terrible never just turn off ure pc at the socket without shutting it down!
All you have to do is click shutdown or on a lot just press the off button once and
leave it and it will shut itself down!

Hi Sarrk hope i can help here, im a computer engineer so i see this all the time, first off your method of repair is dependent on exactly what version of windows you have but assuming you have win xp for now unless you say otherwise. You should be able to repair this without having to format, sounds as tho the forced power down has caused something to have corrupt the boot sector for windows hoping that is that the small surge of power hasnt caused any physical damage to your hdd put in your win cd as stated above although once its booted to the cd instead of going on to the partition you should see at the very bottom it should say hit R to enter repair console, do so. it will then move on from the blue screen for booting to a black screen, it may ask wat partition at this point, there will be a list of partitions preceded by numbers, should just be number 1. If it asks for an admin password just hit enter unless youve set one. You should then have a command prompt at which type "chkdsk /r" without quote marks, this will run thru an entire check disk procedure and repair any corrupt registry entrys, it will take awhile so just let it run, once back at the command prompt type "fixboot" which will overwrite the boot sector, then back at the command prompt type exit and your done. Let me know if this sorts it.

do what jzus has said. if nothing works and you need to recover some data off the hd, get a live linux cd (like koppix) and copy everything you need to a usb-stick. that assuming your hd is not completely corrupted

Ok, so ive put the CD in at boot, and its still not doing anything

Is there anything in the BIOS I need to change or something?

If this works, anyone who helps me out effectivly will get 10 karma each, since my lot isnt going anywhere since -1 karma died

I had this problem, I needed to re-install windows. I deleted a "System" file accidently, causing it to not boot properly.

I know you may have found your problem and fixed it for now,but I had a very similar issue,reformatted only to have windows run terrible.I thought the reformat would of done the trick but it didnt.so after much research I narrowed down my problem...MEMORY
I ran a memory test (http://hcidesign.com/memtest/download.html)and found that one of my sticks of ram was corrupted,pulled it out,leaving me with one gig for now,reformatted and all is good.Im passing this on to you,so even if you feel you have it fixed, you still may want to click on that link and run memtest.if you get even one error its more than likely you may have corrupted ram.
