Hey guys, i couldn't work this one out myself but i was hoping someone else would be able to answer it for me. I am just wondering which card is better, an nVidia 6800gs or ATI x800xl.

I have found only one website which provided a decent comparison of the two and the only thing that I gathered from it was that they are fairly similar but each particular card favours certain games, such as the 6800gs with Quake and the x800xl with FEAR. The conclusion which they came to also said that the 6800gs was much cheaper in America but here in Australia it is the other way around for and the x800xl 256mb version is much cheaper.

I am thinking about getting either of the 2 but if it only comes down to price should i just go for the x800xl or is there something else which i need to consider? Do they actually perform quite the same? And also would this upgrade enable me to play the game on high if i was to get the x800xl, because that is the one which i am swinging towards, or should I also upgrade my ram as well because i only have 512mb.

Cheers for any suggestions

this site shows you that the x800xl is better for games than the 6800gs. Only for Battlefield 2 the 6800gs is a better card.

i would buy the cheapest

about the ram:
it's highly recommended to upgrade your ram to at least 1GB. It makes your computer that much faster!

The X800XL is about online with the 6800GT in terms of performance.

It looks to me that both the XL and GS are exactly the same in BF2.

ATI has lost their mind and put their insanity where it shouldn't count: their cards. Whereas nVidia has done the same thing but put it to GOOD USE and created something phenomenal and worth the cheese! I'd get the 6800.

Until ATI has sorted their shit out, nVidia FTW.

My x800GTO is unlocked to a x800xl...and performance is good, its just my 1GB RAM lags me a bit.
I run 1024x768 medium-high 4x AA....if you have 2GB RAM, you could go much higher

The x800 GTO has 16 pixel pipes unlike the 6800. I have an x800 GTO myself and I love it, I have never had any problems with it, and its a great overclocker.
