ok guys, at my dads house he has aol but we have a cable modem. when i first turn the comp on, i can open pokerstars and mozilla but after about 5 minutes of the computer being on, i can no longer open these programs. please help me out. my moms computer is set up the same way but i dont have any problems on it. please help me out here.
well first off, no offense, but poker programs aren't the greatest stuff to have on your PC.
you can't open anything, or just those?
its weird, some programs that have to connect to the internet wont work but some will. so i try to open yahoo messenger and that works but when i try and open pokerstars, it says internet connectivity problem.
my friend is really good with computers and he cant figure it out so i dont wtf is going on.

just to get this straight: you can still connect to the intenet and download/upload/whatever (with ie for example), but you cannot open (i.e. you click the icon and nothing happens) some (firefox and poker thingy).
is my assumption correct? please clarify.
if that is the case i dont think it has anything to do with AOL. first bring up task manager and check if they are already running. close them and try again. also i suggest you to scan your pc for viruses/malware. this is what i use.

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
no, i cannot use firefox after 5 minutes of the computer being gone. it says "the connection was refused when attempting to contact www.google.com"
same with pokerstars, after 5 minutes if i havent opened it, it will say internet connectivity problem but it runs fine if i open it right when i turn the computer on. make sense?

Stop using AOL?
If you have a firewall, it may be possible that it is blocking whatever port the program needs to use. You can use NETSTAT with the appropriate switches to see what port the poker program is trying to use, then see if that port is being blocked.
NOTE: You must launch the program before running NETSTAT in order to see what port it is trying to use.

try downloading spybot search and destroy (from download.com), run that to get rid of any big spyware porblems. then run any other virus programs u have, but do all this in safe mode (to get into safe mode press F5 while the comp is loading up, when the screens back and some words appear). then try again. if the problem reocurs contact AOL as it could be a connection problem on their behalf.
and i highly recomend that u delet all these gambling things, and if ur dad torrents get him to use UTorrent because its relativly safe

thank you, i will try and let you know what happens.
ok kool
so.. you'r computer gets slower the longer you leave it on and you can't open some programs after a while. Go to www.download.com and download Adaware SE Personal Edition. You can find it under the anti-spyware section. Open this program and download the latest updates using the program.. should only take about 2 minutes. Then start a full system scan and it should fix whatever problem you have. Good luck!
still not working.....
