Is it really as simple as, "Find Max. Core" and "Find Max. Memory" to overclock your ATI card!? My last one went horribly, horribly wrong. (Old - not using ATITools)
The latest catalyst has ATI overdrive which has a built in function similar to ATI tools.

I really should update my Catalyst. Is it as simple to use? Thanks.
The stock catalyst driver uses Catalyst Control Center (CCC) which is a bloated system resource pig. Much better to use a third party driver like Omega which is based on the same driver set but uses a diferent control panel and does not have so much bloat and system usage. The omega drives use ATI Tray Tools (ATT) for the overclocking.
At least that is my opinion, your mileage may vary.

simple answer: yes
concerning CCC: its a resource hog. unless you run crossfire there is no reason you have it installed.
concerning omega drivers: i'm not such a fan of them and neither of ATT. in my oppinon there is no advantage to the ATI drivers and ATT lacks the overvolting and artifact testing that ATI tool has (both are central for serious overclocking)
i use the ATI tool and just the ATI drivers (but i dont have CCC installed, just the driver)
sometimes the auto-oc feature doesnt work properly. then you have to do it yourself (up the speed by 10MHz scan for 5 min, if no error increase the speed again, etc.). also make sure that when you have a card with 2D&3D clocks that you manually "overvolt" to the standard 3d voltages

once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.
