Amen to that. PSU I had in my Packard Bell (I know, I'm sorry) was a 250W p.o.s., now it's a 600W Seasonic S12.

Just open your case and it should tell you on the PSU what the power rating is. It'll be the minimum to run what's in your rig, guarnateed.

That's a pretty vague question.. Why do you want to know?

If you are unsure about your PSU, check what it says on the side of it.

Go check your personal need for PSU here, here or here, for example..
I need around tree fiddy.

I have a 600W Enermax SLI - and it is great - I think they make pretty good ones.

Not sure of a formula ... I dont see any reason for having any less than 550 any more ... I like Antec psus .. they dont appeal to kids that like glow-in-the-dark mobos and disco case lights but they are very relaible. The trio has a 120mm fan (or very close to it) pulling fomr the inside.

Having "SLI" in the name of the psu doesn't really mean anything ... unless they are indicating higher amps also. Actually the trio has some sli sticker on it ..  hmmm  ..

I recently changed to  the Turbo-Cool 1KW-Quad SLI in my main rig. That rig is equiped for graphics work and has 1 IDE disk, 4 SATA disks, 1 DVD-Dual-layer burner and 1 BlueRay DVD. The graphic cards are also big power users. two NVidia cards (GeForce 7950 GX2) (only one working due to firmware driver issue and an MPEG video grabber card Matrox RT.X2. Runs smooth - you never have too much power available....

I see a reason for having less than 550 Watt, the time of radiators like Pentium 4 and incredible high power consumption of 100+ W for only the CPU is over. Meanwhile AMD & Intel build pretty effective CPUs and i guess that power consumption will fall in the future.

I would rather say in Q3-2007 there won't be a reason to have more than a 420 W PSU. This should be the point when the follow up of the next generation GPUs should arrive. AMD & NVidia already stated that they're going to make their GPUs way more effective. (Similar step like going from a P4 to a C2D)

If you imagine AMD putting their chip knowledge into their GPU development then we can all look forward to some really good graphic cards.

SLI in the name of a PSU means of course something, they're certified by NVIdia to have higher amps.

SLI PSUs also have 2 leads for your video cards. No silly adapters.

Most good video cards will want you to have 400-500 watts.
