i'm not a genius, but i know more than my friend.  he's got a shitty system, some brand name but i can't remember.  he currently has a ati 9200 and cannot play bf2.   i gave him an old 9500pro to throw in there to get him started.  my 9500pro is obviously AGP.  Problem is that it will not fit on his mobo.  I must assume that he currently has a PCI card?  i havent seen his computer but know that it is far behind a pci e card and if it wont fit an AGP card, does this mean it is a straight pci slot mobo?  his computer is at least 3 years old.  pci is a dated as you can get right?  or is there something elso out there i'm missing.   please don't tell me to post specs because all i know is he is running his ati 9200 and about a gig of ram.

any helpful comments appreciated.

Before PCI-E, AGP was the standard in graphics.  I'd think that he should at least have a 2x AGP slot in there, if not a 4x.

ok if it doesnt fit do you mean these more pins on the card then the Slot it self?

AGP slot:  have one of these on the mobo?

AGP card:

PCI card: http://www.trinixsoft.com/Products/Hard … oConf1.jpg

If you do have the AGP slot are you not pushing it in hard enough?

It the computer is OEM (dell compaq etc) it is very possible that he does not have a AGP slot. While PCI is not as old as it gets (lol think ISA) for our modern times, it is very limited. The bandwith of the bus is very low, so even a half way decent GPU it will not perform agianst is AGP rival.

New GPUs for the PCI bus have not been made for awhile. And while some out there will play BF2, they are pretty pricey (for the terrible performance they yield)

Like it was said, you should make sure your friend is not mistaken  But if he only has

Than he is limited to PCI cards

and if he turns out to have only PCI slots on there

don't just buy a random pci card because most only support directX 8.1 and you need directX 9 support

If it is a dell he may very will be screwed.  My brother had a dell that was not the bottom of the line but it was still one of their bargain basement specials.  When he went to up grade his G-card to run BF2 he found out that the mobo was pci and couldn't even run any G-card that would power BF2.   A thousand dollars on the credit card later, he bought all the parts and had his neigbor put him together a better computer than I will have for about another 2 years.  He hooked it up to his 52" widescreen to boot (lucky bastard).

i know its not a dell, but perhaps a compaq or gateway.  i was just trying for a quick fix for him.  i hate telling people that their pews are worthless when it comes to bf2.   most dont know what the fuck im talking about when i say upgrade your mobo or ram.  most people (non-gamers) think that if they buy 1 computer that they can keep it for the rest of their life without thinking of upgrading or that it would be able to play any game you can throw at it.  basically the same kind of people who would buy a video card at best buy for $100 more than say newegg.  i'm just going to tell my friend he might as well shitcan his system now and think of upgrading.  thanks for the comments.  and if we've learned anything here today it would be......................friends don't let friends buy bottom-o-the line brand name pieces of shit.
