Question: Why does the US seemingly do little or nothing to prevent or stop illegal immigration into their country?

I find the whole thing absolutely baffling. I just don't get it. Please explain.

My theory on it, is that since we are all technically immigrats ourselves that if we try to become stricter on it. That it always gets thrown back in our face. It's a guilt complex.

It is a little silly for the Mexican's to have protest parades and wave the Mexican flag all over the place.

What about the Mexico border fence they planned to build along 2000 miles?  That kept in nothing?

There is very little we can do to keep immigrants out. In the end it is impossible to stop the immigration without another berlin wall.

The only real solution would be to widen acceptance of legal immigrants, changing illegal immigration into legal immigration.

Even with the wall in place there are still numorus tunnels that have been dug from the Mexico side out in to my backyard.  They are actualy catching alot more of them now but there are still 1000's that they dont.

If we really wanted them shipped back we could.  It's not like we don't know where to find them.  I've got a couple friends working factory jobs and they say it's a total joke how many illegals are working there.  They work the jobs we don't wanna do, so we tolerate it.

Absolutely true.  But you have to put a limit to the number.  Here in Argentina we're about 40 million people and there's 5 million estimated illegal immigrants from Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru and Chile.  If we had to make a fence, it would be 5000 miles long.  How do you do that?  It's impossible to stop.  The only way is accepting people in a legal way, but putting a limit.

Are there no severe financial penalties or similar for employing an illegal immigrant and getting caught?

I think some of the packing plants around here have an "agreement" with law enforcement to not raid their factory.  Sometimes they somehow get a warning on when there might be a raid and half the illegals don't show up for work.  Like half the workforce calls in sick the day of the raid.

Right now there are not but that's changing slowly. They passed the first law in the likes in Harrison PA for employing them and houseing them as well. But with 11 million est. here right now it might cause to be a social nightmare relativly soon.

one word answer: Politics

No party (democrats or republicans) wants to be the party that clamps down on illegal immigration (basically, most of it from south of the border) and alienate the millions and millions of immigrants who have achieved in some way voting rights. Thats pretty much it. nobody wants to piss off potential voters. so they will just pass the buck on to the next generation or the next candidate in hopes that they can avoid ever having to touch the issue. as we all know, ignoring a problem until it becomes such an obscene issue that it is impossible to ever effectively deal with it is the greatest solution to everything (see: global warming).

No, oddly enough, Politicians aren't exactly chomping at the bit to cure this plague. They are more concerned with:

1. gay marriage
2. steroids in baseball

Those are the biggest issues they can find.

But hey, I'm a white guy, I'm not allowed to comment on illegal aliens.

one huge element is that the upper crust which controls 90%-100% of American politics (Democratic and Republican) are some of the largest employers of this illegal immigrant population either directly or indirectly.  This topic is huge amongst the constituents, so they have to put on a facade pretending to clamp down yadda yadda yadda, but certainly not doing anything to affect their personal ammenities.

Personally, I have no issue with immigrants, I DO have an issue with ILLEGAL immigrants.  Especially those who then arrive here and demand we bend our society to facilitate their language and culture.  While in Rome ...
