Hi All

Since buying this and seeing how there is much more in the way of infantry based warfare have you noticed a significant increase in the numbers / overall effectiveness of snipers or not?

I have tried to pick up different kits for this expansion and have found them interesting but tbh i think i would be far more effective in this expansion as a sniper..

Feel free to disagree

Also i hae noticed alot more C4 mining of flags specifically to kill infantry... anyone else or is it just me (i mean where you drop 1 c4, leg it and detonate only when a squad moves up to secure the CP)

Cheers

In BF2 vanilla i need the help of a squad to get 50 points sniping(and maining a decent or better k/d ratio) In SF you can do it without trying solo.

But overall it's still an infantry battle so all classes play a role. It's just that sf shows real world where the sniper is a valuable asset in city battles.

I get 60 points at least in every full round in vanilla BF2 when I'm a Sniper on foot.

Is that pure sniper points? i mean 30 kills with a sniper rifle or do u use stationary wepaons and vehicles also?
If you get 30 pure sniper kills at least in every full round you're like the Sniper master.

In BF2 when i'm a sniper i usually get about 10-15 Sniperkills and in SF i usually get about 20+ "pure sniper kills" If i have a good day.

Ask asked above how many of those points are kill assists, flag points (captue, nuetral, defense, ect) and how many of those are actually pure sniper rifle kills.

IF that is true, he's probably a sniper driving a tank. I've logged plenty of sniper hours, and I typically find 10-15 kills to 1 or less deaths is a good round of pure sharpshooting in BF2... thus far in BFSF I'm finding 15-25 kills pretty easy to get, but the deaths go up from 0-1 to 0-5 or so. just my experience.

I really haven't notice sniping difference from BF2 to SF..  I get 10-15 pure kills and that's not including explosives (claymore, nades).  Deaths wellll I sometimes get 4-8..

All you have to do is look at his numbers to get an idea of how many sniper rifle kills he gets...

8000 kills as Sniper
2800 kills with Sniper Rifle
700 kills with Claymore

Even if all Pistol kills (700), Grenade Kills (300) and Knife kills (1000) were done as Sniper, there's still  2,500 kills remaining that he must have got in a vehicle (which is perfectly fine).

I do note that his K/D Ratio as Sniper is pretty impressive, however.

vjs,

don't know exactly what you mean by that post... I get killed all the time. for me to consider it a GOOD sniper round though I personally want a 5:1 K/D ration at the least, snipers after all are long range soldiers.

I haven't checked in a while but my sniper KD used to be only about 2:1, so I haven't had what I consider an abnormal number of those good rounds. then again, don't believe I ever said I did either.

golf clap all you want.

dshak, read Nyte's post, my post, and then vjs's post and you'll see the point.  The golf clap is directed towards the random, exaggerated brag that has no relevance to the topic.

i found devils perch to be a bit of a monster for a decent sniper..... not sure how many kills i got but got my vet specialist the 1st time i played it (without a clue as to where any infantry traffic would be comming from!)

I'm not a long range sniper, I'm a front line sniper.  Knife and Sniper Rifle is all I need as well as placing Claymores around the flag while I'm capping it (If you're my teammate and walk into it, good for you, 1 less idiot alive).

That's real friendly, putting claymores on your own flag (well it'll be your own flag inside 60 seconds, all being well).  I hope people punish you regularly.

On certain maps in BF2 vanilla snipers are extremely effective, search the forums for my treatise on sniping for tips. I find the city layouts of BF2SF require an extreme rethinking of sniper strategm and I only pull off a 1:1 ratio as a sniper, simply because there isn't really anyplace you can hide. The best sniper spots are usually obviously placed on top of buildings, but that may also be because I haven't gotten used to the maps and areas yet.

I find as a sniper in SF, rooftops are great, but you have to relocate. A lot. The dark areas on the nighttime maps though are really nice for snipers, but you stick out like a sore thumb soon as anyone hits up their NVGs. A dark area right next to very bright patches of light can confuse an enemy long enough.

Nonetheless I prefer vanilla BF2 for sniping. Not all the maps, of course... I learned my lesson the hard way on Karkand playing as a sniper for a while... but some maps. Mashtuur actually is a very sniper friendly map, surprisingly. I've done very well on Mashtuur, reeled in 18-5 once. (14-0 before I was located at my preferred spot and eventually after being hunted down, killed) Not to say that's how I normally do, it's just all about finding a good spot for me, and I haven't been able to do that yet in SF... it's been a whole reassessment of strategy since there's no longer a ghillie. I haven't played much but I've been experimenting a lot with constant relocation via zip-line, it tends to work somewhat well. At least you're not always in the same place where people expect you.

My KDR of my sniperrifle is 2.83
And as overall sniper it is 4.14

44.77% accuracy,, would be much higher if I would only use the M24 and the M95 in the beginning.
I don't like the SVD or the Type 88.

Oh well, it isn't that bad..

Correction, after a lot more play, I've discovered that sniping, though the strategies have changed somewhat, can be very effective in SF. Moreso than in vanilla BF2.

Metal, I'm one of the top snipes (kills) in game, your k/d in both categories is better than mine. no, thats not bad at'll la.

Tigris, you can stay in that spot la, just be quicker to the trigger than the 3 boys taking aim at ya.

Not really. His K/D ratio is not that good. I am not bragging but mine is way better than his. Also look at McCullough's stats. His K/D ratio is better than mine but I think that our ratios are typical for anyone that is a decent sniper.
