The ACLU is a crock of shit (clue:  I rarely cuss in the forums).

Why do I say this?  The Boy Scouts of America are a private organization.  As such they can make their own rules & enforce them.  There are three tenents that they cling to: you have tio be a male, you can't be athiest or agnostic and you can't be a homosexual.

The Girl Scouts of America are a private organization.  As such they can make their own rules & enforce them.  There are three tenents that they cling to: you have tio be a female, you can't be athiest or agnostic and you can't be a homosexual.

The ACLU brings (on average) 2 lawsuits a year against the BSA and NONE against the GSA.

Additionally the ACLU have tried to block the BSA's usage of DoD facilities, public schools & national parks!  But, again, not the GSA's usage, not the Campfire  Girl's usage, not the Indian Scout's Usage (yes, there really is such an organization), just BSA.

Additionally, these are the fuck-twats who got it so if you are sent to prison - you can get a college degree FOR FREE, you can become a lwyer and re-open your case FOR FREE.  And as a criminal - you have more rights than your victim.

The ACLU must be wiped from the map or COMPLETELY re-organized.

The ACLU themselves aren't bringing up the lawsuits...they do it when someone asks them to.  Someone has a problem with the BSA, therefore they go to the ACLU to get representation on civil liberties.  It's their right as citizens to bring up a case, and is also a right of the BSA to defend their private-business standards.  The ACLU is just a catalyst for someone to try to change the system of the BSA when those lawsuits go up.  That is by no means any justification for a reorganization.

Since the other groups don't have lawsuits, it's obvious that no one has any beef with them, or they aren't as demanding as the BSA.

Well let me the first to say Thank you to Everyone on this good debate - we have carried it over to 2 pages and so far there has been no irrational post or idiotic logic - we have done a good job on keeping it mature and level - my thanks go to AlbertWesker on getting this debate started and for having the same ideas as me, another thanks go to The_Shipbuilder for excellent points and keeping everything mature and level ---- -its hard nowadays to find a good thread that has a good debate going with both sides showing good points to support their side

We all have our opinions on the ACLU, some see them as good, some see them as bad, most see that we need them but they need a major overhaul and a reworking

I would like to have a card carrying ACLU member come on here and give us his insight

I'm for disbandment but I know that you need them to balance the system

My option ( this is a real far fetched one and would NEVER work but I like it ) is for every American to stop right where they are and think about moral values and the ten commandments ( please don't turn this thread into a religious flame war )

Yes - you are correct.  However, the ACLU has an implied obligation to look at the complaint and say "Yes, this IS a violation..." or "No, sorry, <organization> is a private organization and can make their own rules."  They HAVE to exercise some common sense, which they do not.

The ACLU, much like the UN, had a purpose and vision.  However, over the years both have become infiltrated by extremest, biased, and money/power seeking individuals.  The bigger issue with he ACLU is that the extreme left control has taken them down a path that they can't return from - remember- they took the path.  The UN is a global issue and should lose it's charter since they have forsaken their mandate.

IMHO;
1} The ACLU should come out of the closet, no longer be a non-profit organization {picking a few cases on the right to make them look unbiased doesn't hide anything}, have all of their finances tracked and accounted for - donations included, and finally they should just be as honest as they preach we should be.

2} The UN can not be dismantled for all the obvious reasons.  However, there needs to be an overhaul, new leadership, and a requirement to enforce their mandate or face disciplinary action by the World Court.

Kaboom.

I'm confused. Why the ten commandments? Are you saying this because it has something to do with the ACLU?

Could you back up your opinion with specific examples which have led you to make such a statement? Such as specific people who you believe are extremist, biased, and power-seeking who have "infiltrated" the ACLU? Or can you give examples of specific cases, actions, or stances put forth by the ACLU which has led you to believe as you do?

I'm definitely willing to consider your points, but it's hard to listen when you offer no evidence or citations.

What specifically makes you believe they are dishonest? You say that the ACLU preaches that we should be honest... can you provide any quotes or sources? I'd be very interested.

Now I'm really confused.

1) Which "mandate" are you talking about? My understanding is that the ACLU has no mandate other than its founding principles, and that it is an NGO supported by member donors free to cease their support at any time. How is my understanding incorrect?

2) Why would you mention the World Court? The World Court / ICJ is an organ of the UN, and is involved in settling international disputes. What would they have to do with the ACLU? What country would sue the ACLU, and what international law would they believe the ACLU has broken?

Because if you take the 10 commandments out of a religious context and just look at them as guidelines for a decent life, they are pretty good.  That's all.

Do a Good Turn Daily
"A troop of Boy Scouts on a camping trip saved an 18-month-old girl who had fallen in a river upstream from them and was floating face down, officials said," the Associated Press reports from Omaha, Neb.:
The boys were swimming in the Platte River at Two Rivers State Recreation Area, about 20 miles west of Omaha, on Saturday when 11-year-old Christian Nanson spotted something floating in the water. It turned out to be a young girl.

Nanson and John Fitzgerald, 9, both member of an Omaha Scout troop, reached the girl and brought her to shore while others called for help on a cell phone, assistant scoutmaster Matt Fitzgerald told the Omaha World-Herald.

The ACLU describes the Boy Scouts as "an organization that will go the way of the Daughters of the American Revolution in losing its place in American life if it does not end its discriminatory practices."

Wow - the last I checked, the DAR occupied an entire block in Washington, D.C. and hosts daily patriotic events.

I certainly hope the B.S.A. Goes the way of the D.A.R.

Oh, wait - WE HAVE!!!!

Again: the ACLU is a crock of SHIT.  And, yes, you may quote me on that.
