Why do you add a "Go Fuck Yourself" option to polls?

Seriously, I was considering the topic at hand, all of the pros and cons, but then saw this and the jackass inside of me just couldn't resist.

And now, I don't even know what this topic is about, because all I can think about is how goddamn clever I am for hitting "Go Fuck Yourself."
Good to be back.

Anyone who gives the same rights to woman as they do sheep shouldnt be allowed to join. Islam is going to take over europe anyway, so in about 200 years there will be one big islamic state and it wont matter.

No way!!! Turkey has got nothing to do with the EU. They have still got to come a long way before they have got something to do with the rest of Europe in all aspects ( culture, politics, way of living, etc ). Besides,  a country that has no free speech, that treats women like animals, uses police brutality, etc, does not have a place in the EU. Plus, remember that the turkish government is composed by the radical islamic party that won the last elections.

Not until they acknowledge the Armenian genocide...then maybe they could be considered.

No we dont need Turkey ! They are not even EU..nearly Middle East and you guys heard what they wanna do ?
The EU said to Hungary that we should say goodbye to the Bell wich is every where at 12.And thats not coz dinnertime or the half of the day...no its because Hungary kicked Turky's ass in Nándorfehérvár fight and thats more over 550 years now ! The pope from italy told the world that the Bells should be played all around the globe at 12 because Hungary saved the whole EU from the Turky's.

And now they say if Turky will be an EU member it will disturb their pride / feelings just because their ass was kicked by us.So i say NO to this shit and hey if they wanna change our history im up for changing the Trianon so our land will get 3/4 more territory back.....its that simple.

As long as they dont recognize the sovereignty of all nations already in the EU, I dont see how they could possibly be accepted to join. And then there is that whole "Mutual values of the Union's member states" thing.
Including:
- respect for human rights
- equality of the sexes!!!
etc.
I agree to that!

Speaking as someone who does not live in the EU, and hence isn't affected by this issue, I would have to say no.

My personal view is that Turkey shouldn't be allowed to accede (controversial!!). I think there is a distinct cultural difference between the atheist/chistian society of the west and that of Islam. This difference in ways of life is largely unbridgeable in my opinion because bridging it would entail the Turks having to give up their values and way of life realistically speaking. I also don't think Turkey should be allowed to join until the Cyprus dispute is resolved. We have to stick by our current member states! Also - EU bordering Iraq? No thanks!!!

A good friend of mine who is in politics disagrees however. He believes that to snub Turkey would be an almighty kick in the teeth from the west to those of the Islamic faith - widening the divide between us and them instead of integrating them. He reckons that Turkey have sacrificed a lot to secularise and make themselves eligible and to not treat them as equals would alienate the entire moderate islamic world.

I agree with you, we are having the same problem in our country. almost 10% of our population is not from sweden originally.

Even if the turks would fix all theire problem I would still vote no because they wouldn't fit in EU, different religion and lifestyle. And in my opinion turkey is more asian then european, geographicly.

i dunno really, but yeah, there is a lot of differencies in lifestyle and other stuff atm i guess.

I would rather see Russia, but that would destroy the storyline in Bf2142 lol
lol, no offence, but you REALLY don't know much about Russia, do you? it won't be just BF2142 storyline, dude, the day EU allows Russia to join is gonna be its (EU) last.

Or it could just mean that we don't want Turkey in rather than no Muslims in. If we were that bothered about Muslims being in the EU, wouldn't we be trying to deport all of them out? Its this kind of overreaction that leads to eventual inaction; "We can't this because someone will not be happy."

If you believe (for whatever reason) that Turkey shouldn't be part of the EU, then stick by that decision until your beliefs change. Your beliefs should not be changed just because your afraid of what the Muslims will think!

If Turkey is the equal of other EU countries in terms of human rights and quality of life, then my personnel belief is that they should be allowed, but not until and i'll not be swayed by the fear of Muslims being offended.

Yes, if they recognise Cyprus and the Armenian genocide and other stuff like human rights but that won't happen very soon as the turkish prime minister is an asshole.

But if they do all these things then why not.

Some here say that it will lead to extra immigration to their country but it hasn't happened with the 10 new countries.....

Immigration from the new EU states hasn't happened in Belgium because only the Republic of Ireland, Denmark, Netherlands, Sweden, Spain, Greece and the UK have allowed citizens from those countries to immigrate without the need for a work permit. All other EU countries restrict entry. 10% of our population are now immigrants from Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

One unrelated point: Turks in Germany have made little or no effort to integrate into western society. Why would Turkish Turks be any different?

10%, does that comprise all immigrants or just the countries you're listing?

That's immigrants in the Republic of Ireland only. We are only a nation of 4 million so an immigration influx has a bigger impact on us.

I meant to ask what is the total percentage of immigrants in Ireland's population? And how extensive is your government's support of these immigrants (in what extent are they allowed to benefit from your social security system)?

Why the hell are Israel in the Eurovision song contest - that doesn't make sense. Oh well, I suppose Israelis spend a lot of time in places they're not supposed to be; Eurovision song contest, Lebannon, The West Bank, Jerusalem etc.

Are you aware that immigration is vital to the survival of western Europe? The indigenous population of western Europe is in decline, without immigration we would be in a horrible mess.

That said, there are an awful lot of immigrants who do just scrounge of the welfare system here in the UK. I haven't seen examples of this in other countries for myself, but it's probably the same. Although Eastern European immigrants tend to be very hardworking (I know that's a bit stereotypical but a girl I used to live with was always complaining that all the Polish people she worked with were making her (and the other English staff) look bad, because they worked so hard). Maybe there should be some sort of system in place whereby immigrants cannot claim benefits of any sort until they have been in employment for a set amount of time?

I work in factory where 15% of the staff are Polish, they worked hard when they were temps. but as soon as they were taken on full time their true colours appeared and are some of them are the laziest and most arrogant people i have ever met (not all of them). Do you need immigration, 400,000 East Europeans 1.5 million unemployed.  We are already having trouble now at nights with fights between Poles and the English, it will only get worse....fact

We do need immigration. Without it the country cannot keep it's population on track. The birth rate in the UK is 1.8 children, for a stable population that number needs to be at least 2.

There is too much immigration, especially in the UK - the rest of Europe is not so badly effected because they don't have so much free stuff, healthcare, welfare state etc.

There need to be tighter restrictions on immigration, the new reforms brought in by the home secretary will hopefully achieve this. But immigration from eastern Europe is very important.

yeah, in my country its almost like we cant be proud of our nationality without beeing racist. And that sucks becouse we have a great history to celebrate.. I dont dislike people from other places but I dont like it when they come here and disrespect us and using our system, they dont care about getting a job because they are getting enough money on social benefits.. Of course not all are like that but some are and that suck.. I think that if an immigrant commit a serious crime they should be sent back..

But most of Scandinavia do not have open immigration to EU residents, Sweden being the exception. Norway aren't even in the EU.
