Due to importation laws, nearly all legal AK's in circulation(in the US) are assembled in the US with US receivers. It's not wierd, it's typical. One's that aren't were here before 1989.
I will add that there are a few other exceptions. One being the Century imports, which have single stack magwells until they're imported into the states, given the proper amount of US parts, then the magwells are cut open to allow doublestack hicaps.

It was $300 back then, I'll post a pic if I can remember to take a photo of it.
We would always take out old watermelon & cantaloupes in the Vegas desert on the way to lake mead, there are some weird vermin there that are starving because they were eating the fruit as we shot it, but they were so fast they could dodge bullets. Damn matrix vermin.
