I'm currently running an Intel P4 at 2.53GHz with 1 gig maxed out ram and a

nVidia GeForce FX5200 128MB AGP Video Card

I run everything on the lowest settings and although the card doesn't even meet the requirements I do just fine on most maps.

But on Iron Gator, my fps is pretty bad.  I've done all the tweaks I've read and it helped a little but it's still not that great.

Can anyone tell me if I will get enough fps on that map w/ just a minor video card upgrade or am I looking at a new computer altogether.  I was hoping to snag something off of ebay for a decent price ($40-80 max), I'm just looking to play at the lowest settings and not be frustrated.

Any advice is appreciated.

Well, I ran everything pretty decently on my Fx5200 before my upgrade.
But yeah, Iron Gator has some very rough edges that are a bitch to overcome. It has to do with how the drawing distances change radically on certain portaions of the map (mainly when you view the superstructure on the ship)

You CAN run at medium without problems on Iron Gator if you put textures to low and reduce your viewing distance to about 80.... However, the AGP bus kinda sets some limits to how much graphics you can draw... So you may need to tweak it a bit. also the speed of your bus, and the overall performance of your board will be a big question. If you have a bad board you may not even be able to run decently at these settings.

If you want to spend $40-80 you may want to look at aquiring a Mobo that supports PCI express instead... This will help you with the next upgrade (new PCIe graphics card) at a later date... Problem is that most boards that support both AGP and PCI express are either shit, damned expensive or very hard to come by...
In any case, do NOT spend money on a new AGP card... AGP is very limiting, and in general you can't run many newer games off this bus. If you can find a good deal on BOTH a PCIe board and a PCIe card you will be VERY happy playing BF2.

Iron gator has always been know to give some decent comuters lag issues.  Your computer is really poor.  Try getting a better computer.  I say this, b/c you are definitely misssing out if you can't play at high settings.

That's the highest video card I'm going to recommend to you. You're getting close to requiring a new PC, and this fall or early next year will probably be the critical point, if you want to continue with new releases at a decent detail level.

yea , 6600-GT whatever is really the only card worth it on AGP,  have an x1600PRO, it could probably run bf2 all high if I had 2gb ram and better proc but I dont so meh

AGP is dead, have to upgrade to PCIe, requires new mobo and proc and stuff:/

Truthfully, bight the bullet and save your money. Stay away from maps that lag you out. Save until you can purchase a new machine. Run task manager and get all your process down to minimal in the mean time. This will reduce the amount of memory being used and take some stress of you CPU.

You are going to need a new machine. Everyones financial situation is different. I don't want to recommend something that is going to make a quick fix and next thing you know you are right back to square one.

I also still run an agp system, but i got a Sapphire Radeon 9550 256mb, works fairly decent with medium settings, even on Iron gator some times. If u wanna upgrade ur card, i suggest looking for a 9500 256, 9550, or even a 9800, as i've seen these used for less than $100 cdn. But if u wanna stay with Nvidia, i got no clue on what cards could do.

Bottom line is a decent 256bit 256mb agp will do the trick for bf2 and bf2 needs this MINIMUM - not 128bit IMO.

Your system will be good for all games at a reasonable level if its roughly -
-P4 2.8 800FSB HYPER THREADING - not a cheap celeron or early model p4.
-1GB ram 400
-256BIT 256MB AGP8x
-Clean and controlled o/s

A system like this will run a 1024 high settings bar AA higher than just on (2x), higher res and high textures+filters . which for most of us IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING GFX!!!1
So in my Opinion, Yes upgrade the graphics and it will make your gaming a world of difference. even a cheap CPU upgrade for that mobo would rock it.

Ok, followup Question

A lot of people say NO Ebay for electronics

Can you really argue against a power seller w/ over 20k sales and 99.9% positive rating?
Everyone has websites with pretty good deals but no matter how you go, you won't beat Ebay prices.

Some sellers pad their ratings..lol
You just need to be careful. There are really good as well as really bad things that can happen when you get into the ebay stuff.

dude really hang on, dont buy a new machine, wait and then upgrade like buggery. At the minute there a technology loo period, within the next few months there will be some kick arse next generation graphics cards out. all you do is save up about 500 bucks, buy anew mother board, stick your processor in that as its not that bad yet, stick your ram in, add another gig or so of a conversent type of ram, and buy a new next gen graphics card, there are some appearing at the mo bhut wait abit prices will fall abit, but the new mother board will have pci card slots galore. I run a
P4 2.8 HT, with a ATI 128mb 9800 pro and a gig of ddr2 400 and mine lags a bit, its not top of the range but i would say its mid range ish and all my settings are medium high. Best advise for a quick fix for not much cash, upgrade your broadband to a faster type, cut down the work your cpu does in task manager.
you said you rams maxed but is that too the bored or have you just filled up your slots, if it b) slots scrap it and buy a single stick and so on etc.
Just so you know if i havnt got a good connection iron G runs weird on mine. so i,m waiting to upgrade.
hope it helps

Even if you pad 90% of 99.9% positive rating, that still leaves you with an actual 99% positive rating, and a good amount of legit sales.  I dunno, just curious, thx for the link.

If you're after AGP cards then try the 6600GT or 6800.
