When I click on a link for a video, my PC slows right down to point where my mouse jumps across the screen.
When I open the Task Manager is says that Windows Media Player is using 99% CPU
If I click the close button (on WMP) WMP closes but my PC is the same. I have to end the program in task manager.

Please help if you can.

Thanks.

EDIT: I've checked for viruses and rolled back.

It does sound virus like..
Here are some checks to try to pin point the problem.

Is it all video files or just one?  what about MP3's played in Windows Media Player?
If its only one then the file may be corrupt, try to recreate it or re-download it.
If its all files then it is probably the player. see below.

Can you use other media players [real, or quicktime] to play the file\s ok?
If yes then then windows media player is probably broken in some way. uninstall it and download it again.
If no then it is could be a problem with your codecs.

I hope this helps man.
