I was asleep. What do you expect at 2am for a 9-year-old?

I just woke up (West Coast) turned on the TV, saw the WTC burning.  Thought I was watching a movie (being I last had the TV on AMC, mom must have changed it to news in the morning) then I saw the little icon on the bottom right corner and though, "Oh, Fuck."  Then I saw the next plane hit, and thought "Double-fuck"  (I was a Freshmen in HS at the time, weird terms come out of your mouth).  Then I called a friend and he answered, "Yeah I know, dad got called in."  (His dad is in the Air Force).  What was weird was school that day, as those kids who didn't know found out... very quiet ('cept for the F-15s flying around).

Lunch was odd... little conversation. "We're going to kill someone, going to kill them bad.  We'll invade some country too"... Named Afganistan, Iran, N.K., Syria... etc.

One of my friends said, I wonder if anyone else got hit.

I was at school, my c u next tuesday of a french teacher refused to tell us what happened, just that "something big happened", none of gave a shit.

After school I went to a friend's place to place some THPS 2 (booyeah bitches), then when it was time to watch some Simpsons, it was pre-empted with news footage of the flaming pentagon. I then proceeded to continue playing THPS 2

I was on a morning break at school so I went across the street to the store to get a cup of coffee and saw the second plane hit on the tv behind the counter as I was paying for my drink.

I was serving onboard the German Destroyer FGS Lütjens at the time.
We were conducting Training off the Coast of England along with USS Winston S. Churchill (DDG-81).
We got a Message from Commander-in-Chief-German-Fleet, then switched on the TV.
As we saw pictures of the first plane crashing into the WTC, we believed in a catastrophical Accident.
As we saw the second plane crash, we knew the USA and subsequently NATO were under attack.
So we awaited orders for deployment that never came. 6 months later we joined War on Terrorism
by participating in NATO-Operation "Active Endeavour".

OK kids, beat this. I was one of, probably, 12 americans who didn't find out until the 12th. I was in a cave. Literally. It was my freshman year of college, and I was on my orientation trip with 15 other incoming freshmen, and we were literally 300 feet underground. When we came out, we cleaned up, hopped in the van, and worked our way out of the Boston Mountains in nothern arkansas. When we finally got back to civilization at like 2 in the afternoon of the 12th, we turned on a tv and found out.

I pretty much just got to school. Went through 1-2 class periods, only to be told to go back home. When I got home, I flipped the TV on and I heard jets flying over my house every now and then. Considering that I live in SF, that's a pretty once in a lifetime thing. Excluding the blue angels.

What a weird feeling that must've been.  Having a great time then realizing what has happened and the world you left is differend than the world you have returned to.

There were some people working on retrieving a UUV from the Titanic, when they surfaced all happy because it was a successful mission, they found out.  Watching that footage was... just odd.

I was getting ready for work in B/CS TX.  Heard it on the radio (92.1) and when I got to work, we pulled up images from internet news services.

I was coming home from school, used to get a taxi, and he asked me

'you hear about whats goin on in the states'
'No why'?
'its mayhem turn on the news pal when you get in'

Turned on sky news to be greeted with the sight of the south tower collapse!  At the time I was only 11/12, so tbh I didnt really know what the wtc was, but I mean, I really couldnt belive it, thing looked like something out of hollywood.  My dad was on a buissiness trip to boston and I knew he would be going to new york for atleast a day, so there was a bit of a worry there, thankfully he called on his mobile, I could barely hear him for the noise of screaming fire engines.  I remember he said

'Ooo dear God' and at that moment there was a huge bang, as the second plane struck (this obv preceeds the collapse of the south tower if my memory serves me correctly).

And yeah thats right, james cameron was filming 'Ghosts of the abyss' they lost a robot at the wreck, went to recover it, and when they got back they where greeted with the news........

Sad day for all, my mother was laid off as a result of 9/11.

It seems that like how our parents remember where they were when JFK was shot, we will all remember 9/11.

I can remember when the challenger exploded and when 9/11 happened. When 9/11 happened, I was working for a Cable Company so there were plenty of TVs to watch. I can remember my wife callling me to watch the news and all of a sudden the phones stopped ringing. I must have had my eyes glued to the TV for three months watching CNN and Fox.

Well lets see.  I was stationed onboard the USS San Juan out of Groton, CT at the time.  I was on watch back in the Engine Room when my bud came tearing ass back and told me a plane just nailed the WTC tower.  At the time I said "Well that sucks!".  Alittle while later people come back with tears in thier eyes saying the second tower was hit and that it was a probably attack.  Right around that time we got the Delta message from squardron and the pushed every civilian off the base and locked her down.

Next thing I know every boat on the water front starts up and are under thier own steam within a short time.  I remember my wife telling me she say the boats going down the river two by two and wondered which one I was on.  (She worked a retirement home that overlooked the river.)   It wasn't until around lunch that I was relieved and able to give her a call.  Unfortunately my boat was in for repairs and not able to go to sea but almost everyone of us volunteered to go underway on a differant boat or help get them out asap.

I would like to say something to those who wonder why the people on those planes did nothing...
First they were told they where going to be released unharmed.  Second, at first they had no indication of what was happening.  Third-why the hell would you attack someone who just said they would release you?  Even if they are the bad guy its safer to wait it out vice attacking there.  Thats why the passengers on the plane that went down over PA attacked, they found out via cell phones and IMs what happened to the other planes and finally decided to act and I might add successfully stopped the attack at the cost of thier own lives.

Don't ever doubt someone's descion in a life or death situation until you've been there...unitl you have its just a case of whose balls are bigger....

Back then I worked for Wal Mart and a donut vendor had a small 5 inch B/W TV in her little space she had inside the store, We all gathered to watch what we tough it was an accident -the first plane crash-, by that time all the TV`s around the store "the ones hanging from the ceiling" had a live CNN feed and thats when the entire store saw the second plane crashing everybody was quiet, I went to the break room with my wife She used to work there too we sat to watch the news and then the first tower comes down, I remember I told my wife this country is not going to be same after this when fact the whole world is not the same after that, take the bombings in London and Madrid.
