Remember price is always a factor for me, although if the performance of a Raptor (more expensive) is worth the difference in price compared to SATAII drives, then I will definietly consider it.  Thanks for your feedback.  I am just tired of being the last one to always load into a map.

Current system:

AMD 3000+ (2.0 Ghz) 754 on Epox SLI (Gli) mobo (SATAII comp.)
1 GB OCZ RAM DDR 400
WD HDD IDE 8 MB cache 160 GB cap.
Geforce 7600 GT 256 MB ddr3

I'd be looking at another gig of ram before I would even consider a new hard drive.

Does having two gigs of ram really make a difference on this game????

Just curious.

BTW, i have two raptors in a raid, the only difference i get into the rounds really quick and i do not get the occasional load pause people get or I use to get.

First off, get more ram.  2gb will help your load time immensely.   secondly, look at getting a new cpu.. maybe an a64 3400 newcastle.. those will help you load in to a server faster than a hard drive will.

but just to vote, Ive got the WD Caviar 250GB 16Mb Cache, and its pretty quick, and Ive also got a 37Gb Raptor for my OS... its pretty fast too.

you probably don't need a new HD because it won't load faster. Your computer don't use the swap when you play BF2. It just uses the RAM so I would go with another stick of RAM.

First off make sure that ur Current HD is working at its fastest, since mine was set to the lowest speed and therefore loading took ages, but I cranked it up and now it goes pretty fast

I don't know which it was, but after I added another gig of ram, and changed my old maxtor to Barracuda 7200, I'm always first or second to spawn when new map loads. Too bad I don't care too much about flying, because getting jets would be really easy.

1. Get an other 1 GIG of memory, it's a huge performance gain especially in BF2
2. Raptors are pretty fast, but not worth the money.
3. Try to find benchmarks or experiences on both the Seagate and WD drives and chose one of them.

RDMC, what do you mean make sure it is working it's fastest?  Defrag?  Otherwise it is the only drive on the primary IDE channel if that is what you're talking about.

Secondly, I understand the need for more memory, but wouldn't that affect the in game experience more so than the actual loading time?  I mean as long as the game has enough memory to cache everything to, then how does more actual make it faster?  As I understand it, the game has to access the client files from your Hard Drive to cache them into memory at the beginning of each map.  I have fast memory, but a slow hard drive, thus slow access to my client files.  Is this not correct?

Raid the seagate, much more economical and faster

Ok I was playing and running a memory test, it seems that I do use all but 100 MB of my physical memory when playing, so I think my path is going to be to purchase 2GB memory (anyone wanna buy some 3 mo. old OCZ plat. (2x 512 MB)?) and also a Seagate 7200 rpm SATA II 250 GB Drive.
