a side note, if it's a XP version without service pack one, PLUG OUT NETWORK CABLE! then activate internal firewall, otherwise you might risk getting viruses within seconds after successful boot
Have you tried repairing the master boot record in order to get windows to start?
Insert windows CD to go into windows setup there should be an option to enter the repair console (cmd line) if unsure what to do type HELP which will bring up all the commands available to you.
Type CHKDSK
Which will quickly scan the drive looking for errors
Type FIXBOOT
Which will rewrite the master boot record allowing the computer to start up in to windows
If that doesn't work you could try a clean install which should replace the corrupt system files
If that doesn't work then there is nothing else you can do but reformat the drive and re-install windows as the main system files have become corrupted.

"So I'm like ok I'll do this and maybe it will take me to the desktop so I can reinstall windows."
Um, if you can't load Windows, why would you want to get to the desktop to reinstall Windows? You can't install Windows from a desktop anyway. And if you're at the desktop do you need to install Windows? What if you were at the desktop... OH NO, I'VE GONE CROSS-EYED.

yes you can. Pop your Windows XP disk in your drive next time you're running Windows. It actually asks you if you want to install it.Lt.Garbo wrote:

The best solution for your level of knowledge is to reinstall windows over the top of your current install, backup any files you need to a CD-R/DVD-R and then do a proper clean install of windows.
Normally i'd make a mention of BartPE etc however, your knowledge of such stuff ain't great so it's best not overloading you.
And finally...
If you can't fix it, force it.
I'll get my coat.

Ummm, I do full format and reinstalls of Windows all the time using USB keyboards. All you have to do is make sure that support is turned on in the BIOS. That way your USB functions are controlled at the hardware level, and will work even when you're doing something like a format/restore.coke wrote:
