since we are on the topic... I'm petty new to computers, and this is the processor I am looking at buying. Is it any good?

Unless you already have your 939 motherboard, I'd say spend another $50-60 and get a Core 2 Duo E6600.  E6600 has 4 times the cache and much higher performance.  Otherwise, for a 939 platform, it's not a bad chip at all.

In this link to an Anandtech review, you can see the E6600 with an 11% advantage over an FX62 (in BF2)which is AMD's fastest chip at the moment.  It jumps to over 30% lead compared with the 4600+

cpu is ok, only  a new video card, but if you want extreme resolution with you pc, buy a better cpu and video card

I play bf2 with all settings on high on 1280x1024(1600x1200 but than i got some time that its not to smooth) with a amd 64 4000+ 2 gig ddr and a geforce 7900GT
i run it on all high 1600 x 1200 smoothly with a 6800 gt, amd sempron 3000+ and 2 gb of ram.
lol, i don't know what you call "running" it on that cpu and gfx card,
but i have used to run bf2 on high all at 1600x1200, on an OC'ed leadtek 6800gs, with 2gb of geil, and an amd 3700+ oc'd 10%.

although i turn off lightning so i can see snipers.

I had the same prob. running on medium to low settings with the following setup:

AMD 3000+ (btw, it's 2.0 Ghz, socket 754) on DFI lanparty nF3 250GB mobo
1 GB (2x 512 MB) OCZ plat. pc 3200 DDR 400 Mhz RAM
ATI 9600 pro advantage 256 MB DDR, o'clocked to 450 core frq., 225 memory frq.

Now I can settings on high with 2xAA and run around the same frame rate 40+ fps. with this setup (and it only cost me $212)

AMD 3000+ (btw, it's 2.0 Ghz, socket 754) on Epox SLI (ULi) mobo
1 GB (2x 512 MB) OCZ plat. pc 3200 DDR 400 Mhz RAM
eVGA geForce 7600 GT 256 MB DDR3

As you can tell, all I upgraded was the mobo and vga.  My 3dMark06 basic score went from 480 to 2935!

Next up, I am attacking my horrible load times by replacing my IDE HDD with a Serial ATA drive.
