No, they've released the ones whose home nations have said "oi, we want our citizens".

The part they put innocents in Gitmo in the first place without trial is totally undermining one of the best parts of American liberty and democracy.
Why should terrorists or potential terrorists be afforded the American liberty and democracy my ancestors fought so hard to secure? We shouldn't take chances when American lives are at stake.
For starters, the endless patriotic garbage is getting old.

Secondly, the reason you yanks cop so much flak over Gitmo is because you have yet to prove that they are actually terroists.

Go On, Prove It in a Legitimate Court, I DARE YOU TO.

And just because American lives are at stake is reason to imprison people without trial. Stop going on about American liberty and democracy and freedom, try sharing it out, show you are a true democratic country with liberty, try the Gitmo prisoners in a legitmate court, everyone should be afforded liberty and democracy, i thought thats what you guys were trying to give to the world?

I think the CIA have done their homework at this stage. They've released the innocent ones and what we're left with in Gitmo are the animal scum whose brethren killed 3000 people on 9/11.
Then let the CIA show that homework to all of us and shut the world up. What you don't get is that GTMO makes all of US look like hypocrites. You say your are champions of freedom, ready to die unselfishly for it. But you reserve the dictatorial power to deny that freedom to anyone you wish. That is what is not right, and it is entirely against your very own constitution.

What also is terribly wrong is how americans like CyrusTheVirus (a very adequate name, btw) are ready to point a finger at other americans and call them LIBERALS! COMMIES! What ever happened to democracy in this country? Whatever happened to people being able to express their opinions without being labeled an anti-american? Its truly a virus that seems to be spreading, destroying what I have always admired in the US: the way people were proud of their freedom of speech.
1. Those incarcerated in Gitmo are 'enemy combatants' not 'prisoners of war'. Under law, they are not entitled to any rights. I don't see how our treatment of enemy combatants violates our constitution.

2. It sounds like you don't like me exercising my right to free speech.

Given that those incarcerated are not technically 'prisoners of war' then no we aren't contravening the Geneva Convention. Even if we are - what's anyone going to do about it? Nothing that's what - apart from bitch and moan.

You should read up on your own constitution. Its states very clearly that everyone has rights. Even child molesters, serial killers and screwed up kids who go into schools shooting everything around them, all of which US has its fair share.

Changing the wording doesn't change the situation. the Afghan and Iraq conflicts were described as the "War On Terroism", you guys even said it yourselves that it was a WAR. Now when it comes to imprisoning people for no charge you suddenly change your tune and say 'oh no, they are enemy combatants", which is "Bush Spin Doctor" for PRISONERS OF WAR.

Yes it is rather worrying that people like child molesters have the same rights as you or I.

Well then, I guess we reached an understanding. You believe not everyone has the right to a fair trial, and I do. A bit ironic, since you are american and I'm not.

Interesting that you say someone from Brazil, i.e. not an American citizen, has the same rights as yourself yet you deny the same rights to the people in GTMO.

By the way, your Supreme Court has said that the Geneva Conventions do apply to the people held at Guantanamo.  Are you saying that the Supreme Court is wrong?

yep
the same bastards that wrote the consenting argument are also the same ones that have taken to referring to foreign law, foreign law as in not the US constitution, I can't remember which justice it is and on dial up at work I can't bring up multiple windows, the supreme court is not infallible, the judges can be impeached just as this jackass that uses foreign law should be, and their sole job is to compare law matters as they relate to the US constitution, what we have now are a few activist judges taking advantage of vacancies on the bench (I believe one judge was absent during this hearing) and trying to legislate from the bench, sorry but that would be the job of the "legislative" branch

That would be the majority of the Supreme Court you're calling bastards then.  The ruling was given 5-3 so even though one judge - Chief Justice John Roberts - was absent (he'd actually tried the case before it got to the Supreme Court) it would have still got through.  And what are these vacancies you speak of?  The bench is full, AFAIK.

MY FREEDOM?! are you kidding me??? show me all the WMDs that could have blown up cities in the US that are sitting in iraq and i'll show you a purple penguin

and that last part, is possibly the one of the sickest (as in disgusting not cool) things I've ever heard.  I guess people have lost their humanity and killing people is the solution to everything.  I guess no one understands the fact that these people are human beings with families. (dont go crying hippie liberal etc etc) by holding them here we're only making their children into terrorists.

yeah the bench is full, it was robert's absence i was referring to, and yes the judges that used to be considered "centrist" have been showing over the past decade or so more and more extreme tendencies, and they are not infallible

Yeah Virus, your surrounded by liberal commies. You know what, you should pick up weapons yerself and start cleaning your country of these commie bastards that live in your country. They should be hanged along with those bastards in GTMO, they don't deserve to be called americans.

Make sure you revoke yourself for failing to defend the right to a fair trial granted by your Constitution.

Sorry the second you take up arms against your own country you have forfeited your constitutional rights in my opinion.rights and freedom should be conditional

I cannot fathom how one defends a place used to house innocent people like animals; and perhaps torture them.

"I don't care about anyone besides myself. As long as I'm not taken there who gives a rat's arse?"

That's what the original post should've said.

I agree. It's sad to see how far removed some Americans have become from the foundations upon which their nation was built.

Threads like these are why I'm moving to Europe first chance I get... I'm not going to be around when the USA goes into a civil war or becomes a fascist regime.

Either that or New England along with California can break off and create they're own nation - now that's what I call a plan.
