Tell that to those they've been killing.
Look, a UN peacekeeping force appears to be the best option, but in the meantime what wlse can Israel do but fight?
-Agree on a ceasefire?
-Obey the ceasefire?
-Make steps towards peace in the area?
-Stop unnecessary killing?
There isnt going to be peace for a long time there, and i dont condone unnecessary killing, but i can understand why Israel is pissed with Lebanon in general and arent going to be too accomodating. It falls on the UN and other countries to force a ceasefire, becasue i dont think Israel's going to obey one on its own. The bombing in Beirut is unnecessary, but in the south, where Hezbollah's strength is, i think its justifiable. And what steps could they take? (not flaming, a genuine question)

how so? please explain how that isn't a valid possibility
Heres one for you.

America is viewed as the country most likely to step up to the mat when 'those damn arabs' step out of line.

And well, 5 years in september can't be that long for you to recall right?

Putting the UN HQ there just gives people a target they don't have to learn to fly (fly, not land) to take out.

Also, look up how many embassys have been taken out. And how many countries have already been attacked.

It wouldn't work

There would be so many UN peacekeeping soldiers around for awhile they would have to share the same pair of pants with a Hezbollah peacemaker, there will be peace. The various "advocates of the Arab downtrodden" claim economic woes are why young Arabs join terrorist organizations. Are they not telling the truth?
Maybe those "advocates" say that, but Hezbollah is "on a mission from god". Economic woes don't mean much to them, even if it is a small part of their arguments.

OpsChief wrote:

Do you really believe the terrorists would attack innocent UN staff who were sent to protect Lebanon from Israel and vice versa?
Of course I do!!! Do you actually think Hezbollah, al-Qaeda and any other terrorist groups give a crap about "innocent" UN officials?!?!? They are firing rockets in the middle of Israeli cities ffs!

OpsChief wrote:

What happens if they do hit a UN staff member? We are not talking about 4 UN soldiers in a watchtower bud. Just one UN person gets their head lopped off and there will be a multinational combined field army of 250,000 troops there to arrest the dude who did it.
Yeah right... They have beheaded quite a few US soldiers in Iraq, filmed it, put in the internet, and the US has failed to capture any of them. But if you think the UN will do a better job...

OpsChief wrote:

Again the non-combatant staff would not go in while the shooting is going on. Who would suggest that? First the 25,000 UN peacekeepers would show up, then..... I covered this in detail back there somewhere in the replies.    lol

A ceasefire will not last. Placing the UN HQ on the border would last much longer. Or getting Israel to buy Madagascar or someplace as an alternative might work.

A solution where the tribal chieftains will not lose face has the best and most lasting chance. Everything else adds up to war at some point in the future.
I'm sorry, but I can't see any logic in the idea that the UN HQ building near the border would help keep the peace longer. Like I said earlier, they DON'T CARE if the UN HQ is there or not! What is going to make them think twice about firing rockets at Israel is the 25000 peacekeepers, not the HQ.

But lets say you are able to stop the shooting and then send in the non-combatant UN staff. Then you send in the ambassadors. The lets say the shooting starts again, you do realize it probably would happen. What then? Evacuate the UN building? What if the Hezz doesn't like an UN resolution and start sending rockets into the UN HQ? What then?

And above all, don't you think the al-Qaeda would view the UN building as a perfect target for their next airbus attack, SITTING RIGHT ON THEIR BACKYARD!!! That is why I find it hard to believe you are serious...

I see a lot of people saying that Israel's bombing is unnecessary . Sure it seems to be heavy handed but they have the means . If Hizbullah had the means with fighter jets and the like I'm sure they would use them . Why doesn't Iran send fighter jets to bomb Israel ? They have them , why not use them ? Because then all the blame would be put on Iran . It's better to set up the rockets in villages and in front of buildings occupied by civilians so when the Israeli jet come in and bomb them they kill the civilians tarnishing Israel's image and garnering sympathy from the world . And it's working .

Maybe the fact that hezbollah is getting sympathy would be a clue for the Israelis that perhaps needlessly slaughtering civillians is not a positive thing?

Oh wait, forgot the Israelis want to wipe Lebannon off the map.

LOL IF Israel wanted to wipe Lebanon off the map then why did they pull out of Lebanon in the first place ? I mean if your trying to wipe a country off the map the plan would be to stay and push everyone out , killing everyone you see right ? If they were intent on doing such a thing then why bother dropping leaflets giving them 24 hours notice and give them a chance to escape ? Wouldn't you want to get as many kills as possible ? Anyhow why dose Hizbulah set up rocket launchers in the middle of civilians and villages ?

Hm, isn't that what Israel is doing right now? Wholesale indiscriminate bombing of everyone? They drop leaflets, then bomb all the routes out of the city. They claim to agree to a 2 day ceasefire, then start bombing again in 12 hours. They're tricking people into leaving and walking into the bombs.

No . Some people refuse to leave . Some CAN'T leave . Some support Hizbullah , some just want out and get caught in the cross fire . As far as wholesale INDISCRIMINATE bombing - please . If Israel wanted to start a slaughter/genocide  the body count would be much , much higher my friend . They wouldn't be using guided anything . Carpet bombing would be used . Hell perhaps napalm . I'm sorry but Hizbullah is using the civilians as a sympathy shield . I just read a report yesterday where some of the pilots were deliberately missing targets fearing they were filled with civilians . A lot of the Intel coming out of the IDF is bogus . The pilots actualy hit near the buildings to see if and body comes out of the biulding . Is that indisriminate bombing ? I guess so ?

They're bombing civillian targets, that qualifies as indiscriminate. As in, indiscriminate of military and civillian targets.

OK you win and war sucks . BTW Hizbulah has fred over 3,000 rockets into Israel and is threatening to hit Telaviv . I guess Israel should just hide in bunkers and hope for the best . Oh and another thing , if your using civilian buildings to blend in and camofalge your hideouts then how can you tell witch is witch ?

Damn check this out . Total crap and bullocks .

@EVieira  your comment about Al-Qaeda not caring is interesting. Al-Qaeda needs to maintain popular will at least somewhere to survive. If they hit the UN HQ they could lose that will and support they get from it. At least those countries would stop looking the other way and make Bin Laden move on. With intense unanimous world scrutiny Al-Qaeda would be just a memory very soon. Hitting UN HQ would undo Al Qeada and accomplish that. Bin Laden knows it so he would not hit it. The sovereign nations also know it. If Iran sponsored an attack on UNHQ the UN would authorize the use of extreme force to educate Iran about living in a religiously diverse world. Iran would probably go kill Hezbollah themselves if Hez hit the UN with Iranian missiles.

I would like to hear what the local countries would think about a serious plan to move UN HQ to Southern Lebanon. The UN HQ in the middle changes the rules about where someone can hit without the world dumping on them.

If we are serious about peace in the Middle East what else can we do? Kill everyone?  Some force followed by a sincere and decisive move by the world community to block further hostilities can help.
