Hi,

I posted a forum topic regarding a problem I have with BF2. I've I havn't played for months (since march) and have now decided to reinstall and play. I've installed it, got the latest 1.3 patch and i'm ready to play. But whenever i connect to a server. after about 1 to 60 seconds, i get kicked by punkbuster.

It keeps doing this to every server i connect to (i've connected to about 15 so far) it just shut's it down and i'm left with an error message from Punkbuster on the main menu. The reason it says is " you have inadiqute O/S privilages" (sorry if the spelling is off)

Here's a screenshot as proof:

Has anybody else had this problem too? If you have had it and have managed to fix it, could you please help? I'm very eager to get back to BF2.

As far as I know, that means that you don´t have full privileges, means you have a main user account for your windows.
I´m no a pro with stuff like that, but maybe it gives you direction for a further search.

That can't be it, but thanks anyway. I ran BF2 with the exact same setup as i have now. Nothing has changed.

Try manually updating PB.

I haven't heard of this before but one of the problems with patch 1.3 was repeated crashing.  Most servers require the FULL 1.3 patch (versus the incrimental).  If you got the incrimental I would suggest downloading and installing the full patch.  No guarantees that it'll work but doing that seemed to solve most other problems people were having after the new patch.

Another possibility is that the operating system (o/s) is holding back the game for some reason.  If it's the same setup as you had previously the only thing I can think of is if maybe you don't have enough free memory.  Any big downloads between March and now?

I'm sure it won't, but I hope this helps.

I've tried this, but it didn't work. But I have a feeling PB is messed up. Could someone give me a proper guide to updating PB? I think this is the most promising option.

I have already updated it. Nothing has worked so far. I just found someone who has the same problem on these forums.

Not sure if this will help but there were two things mentioned in the punkbuster FAQ that may help. First one probably does not apply but the one about VX2 sounds like a possibility (this was taken directly from the punkbuster site in the FAQ so I would assume that you can trust that .exe).

I keep getting kicked by PunkBuster for "Blocked O/S Privileges"?

Please temporarily disable other security type programs you have running such as anti-virus, process guard, SDProtector, etc. to find out which of them is blocking PB's access to resources on your computer. You either need to run PB without the blocking program(s) or play on non-PB servers. Also make sure you run the game under an Administrator or equivalent account under Windows. If you do have access an admin account, you can right click on the application you want to run and select "Run As". This will allow you to give admin access to that program and should allow you to play with a limited user.

Download and run this file from any location, it will check for adware that stops you from being able to play on PB servers. The VX2 adware edits your user rights when it infects your computer, and many programs do not repair this when they remove it.

http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/VX2Finder(126).exe

Click the "Find VX2.betterinternet info" button to make sure that you don't have this adware. If there are no files listed, go on to the last step. If you find the adware files, (it is usually 3 random named dll files) Select all the files found.

Press 'Delete These Files'. The program will delete all files but one that will be deleted on reboot. Allow program to reboot. Once Restarted:

Press 'Guardian.reg'.
Press 'User Agent'.
Press 'Restore Policy'.
Clicking on "find vx2.BetterInternet info" again should show all fields blank.
If you have no adware files, just click on the "Restore Policy" Button
EDIT: Just noticed that link to VX2Finder didnt work, here is another link if you want to check for that adware:
