Hey evey1.
I bought bf2 as soon as it came out. I tried to install it straight away, but when i went to install i got these lovely little errors which apparently are quite well known:

"MD5 cheksum error ...."

These errors occured on random files every different time i tried to install. I searched endlessly for fixes and eventually found a suggestion to end all non-critical background processes. I tried this and it improved the problem. I also tried getting the failed files from my mates pc. This "kind of worked". I could play the game but not certain maps.

So anyway, i continued to play away for most of the year until today, when i eagerly bought SF. Now i've had a problem before with installing the 1.03 patch. At the end it said "patching failed". but when i ran the game it luckily didnt seem to effect my play. However...when i went to install SF and the patch, the same error appeared, but this time it wouldnt let me continue to install the game. I tried over and over agin but nothing.

It was suggested that i reinstalled bf2, so that i did. Oh i wish i hadn't. That delightful MD5 error reappeared. But this time, after i skipped a few of them, it reaches another error:

"Failed to install Battlefield 2, try starting from the beginning"

I tried this over and over again. But nothing.

I finally contacted EA tech support where they told me how to completely erase all bf2 content from the system. They were very helpfull, but the problem remains, however the MD5 error seems to have disappeared.

I'm really sorry for this long post, but i'm really stuck for ideas and need some help. I understand if you get bored reading this, so don't bother whining about it. I JUST NEED SOME HELP PLEASE.

THANKS

have you checked for viruses?

a friend of mine had a virus that was affecting all his loading and installations..

I use google then search for housecall.  they got a free antivirus thingy there.

The last measure would to do a format and fresh load.

Just my $.02

I tried scanning but no viruses, just a few adaware but that didnt solve it. I think its to do with the disk itself, its a bit scratched. I'm gonna' borrow my mates disk today hopefully. I'll post again if/if not it works.

k. I've finally kind of fixed the probs without reformatting. Here are the fixes for ny1 who needs them.

1) MD5 - Firstly run msconfig and unselect running startup programs then restart computer and try it again.
Make sure you're not running anything else aswell.

2) "Failed to install" - This will most likely be a disk error. Use your mates disk but REMEMBER TO USE YOUR
    OWN KEY.

3) "Patching Failed" - i don't know what this was but i just kept trying and it eventually worked. Funnily
enough it actually worked first time when i was running IE as well.

Well there you go if ny1 needs it. TY all for ur help

If you're getting checksum errors on random files I'd hate to say it but I'd suspect that your hard drive may be failing.  One thing to check would be to right click "My Computer" and go to "Manage".  Look in the event viewer under the system event logs.  If you see any error with the source "Disk" that say bad sector found or somethign similar then I'd start backing up files and seeing about getting a replacement drive under warranty or buying a new one.  You may have gotten it to install because its no longer trying to write to bad parts of the disk but that doesn't mean you won't have problems in the future.  I'd at least check the event log.  It only takes a minute.

TY Slick. I checked the log but found no errors. I doubt it's to do with tht. I think i've found the prob. though.

I have 2 sticks of RAM (256 and 512) so i removed the 256 first and no difference. But then i replaced it with the 256 and it installed perfectly. Now im not sure though if this was just luck or whether there is a dirsct link. I don't want 2 try coz i've spent almost a week now reinstalling.

Anyway i reckon it was a problem with my RAM.

TY all again. I hope this helps ny1 else.
