Morning all.

I have a problem with the VOIP in BF2 not working properly when I have Teamspeak open also. To cut a long story short, I have tried everything, all drivers, DirectX settings, the lot.

Anyways, I am not here to fix it, but I would like some advice on a new sound card. I put an ancient PCI128 card in to see if that solved the problem, and it did. The only issue now is that I cant use the front panel audio on my case as the old card has no headers for the connectors.

Can anyone suggest a PCI card that has allows me to still use my case audio and mic inputs? It needs to be cheap also, as I don't have surround sound speakers and only a mono headset. Thats because I cant actually hear stereo due to partial deafness - no not from BF2

So can anyone suggest a suitable card for me? Oh and I dint have the room in my case for one that comes with its own front panel.

Many thanks all.

do you need the front jacks only because your cables are too short?  If that's the case, go to any Radio Shack and pick up some 5ft.  extensions.

I heard somewhere that BF doesn't even support the front panel mic input, you need to use the one in the back
And it doesn't work for me either

SAS-Lynx,  I am sure thats a great card but I cant make anywhere near full use of its feature set. Thanks for the advicce though

Reciprocity, thanks for that man. Thats about what I was looking for. Now forgive me if I am being dumb, but would I connect the lead from the front panel of my case straight onto the card, or do I leave the lead connected to the mainboard and then the card picks it up from there? I am not sure if the latter is even possible, but I just read somewhere that one of the soundblasters had "built in front panel circuitry" so I assumed thats what it meant?

Thanks again.

the motherboard is usually between the front panel and the sound card.  that's what connects the two.  do you really, really need the front jacks  or can you use extension cables between your headset and sound card.  oh, is your headshet USB?

Yeah, why did I not think of that. Of course I could just use extensions, great idea! See I told you I was being dumb +1 for you matey! *edit* Well I would if I had enough posts

I'll still have to get a new card as this PCI128 is ancient and obviously has no EAX support etc. But something like that one you suggested might be ideal.

In future I really must remember to engage brain before tackling a problem

Thanks

Dunno if it's decent (maybe someone else can tell), but at least it's cheap

Creative Sound Blaster "LIVE!". 5.1 cards for less then $30. Not bad, and a suite of extra software comes with.
