How many watts is your power supply? If your power supply is underpowered then it isn't giving enough power to your videocard.

It should be 400W or more.
550W Antec TruePower.

Hmm, perhaps it's FRAPS because if I hit scroll lock twice (my record video key), it goes away.

I need to close FRAPS for like a week I guess and see if it still happens.

Ah, that is more than enough wattage for a power supply (at least for now )

FRAPS would indeed hamper framerate! It is taking system resources away from rendering the game for recording it.  And it is using your RAM and harddrive to store those recordings, so when your harddrive tries to access those textures via virtual memory (your harddrive) it has to temporarily stop the read/write process for FRAPS and do a seek/read for the textures which causes "teh lag!1!11oneone" on your computer.

Yeah, if you can shut it down when you don't need it, you won't be experiencing those problems. I hope that helps.

Well yeah, I'm not recording. I just usually have it open for FPS readout.

I have this same exact freaking problem. And I have a very similar PC to yours Viper.

Intel P4 3.2
Asus P4P800SE
2 Gig Corsair XMS
BFG 7800 GS OC (8x agp)
WD 80Gig
WD 250Gig
Ultra 500watt PS

I originally thought that it was maybe my video card was just getting to old and upgraded to the BFG 7800 GS OC from a Gainward 5950 Ultra, still have the problem. I also run Fraps as you do and I will try playing for a while with it disabled, although I have the video capture feature disabled on mine, but you never know.

Its weird because when I first started playing BF2, this never happened. I cant place when it origianlly started as its been happening for at least a few months now. I have been ALT+TAB'ing out of the game when it happens to see if anything out of the ordinary but I can never seem to see anything odd or out of place. I have tried ending several processes while playing to try and get it to stop with no luck to this point.

I'm 99% sure it's FRAPS at this point. I rebooted my computer recently and so FRAPS started up again without me realizing it and while I was playing yesterday, it started lagging bad again. So, I alt+tabbed, quit FRAPS, and it seemed to go away pretty much...

So damn, but yay!

I'm running EVERY thing on HIGH except the 4x AA from the game, I have the card handle the 4x AA and 2X antro.

I don't believe I had this issue back in BFV, but I was running an older version of FRAPS then and a 9800 Pro, so...

And I'm currently running 2.6.4 build 4977. I'll go grab 2.7.2 or whatever the latest is now.

the 256 video bios settings will load more textures into your memory causing a decrease in the amount of time it takes your video card to render the screen but only use it if you have more than 1.5 gigs of memory
