ATI 9600, this is the part where I think it sucks cause I can see that video cards with 256 MB make the image look much much better.

Pros: Portability
Cons: Desktop replacements overheat and may shut down, mine is set up with a floor stand fan
Now days I would get me one of 'em 2nd gen XPS by DELL. But to tell you the truth my next computer will be a desktop.

I have an HP 6000 series with the ATI Express 200M series graphics card.  It's not near good enough to play the game, but it does on low settings with little lag...100% view distance.  Other than that, it's all low.  It will actually play SF's as well...a little more lag however.  I only use my laptop when I travel or I'm at home.  If I'm at my office, I use my pimp desktop...medium/high settings across the board.

I am using a Inspiron 9200 and BF2 works great....only problem is that if I try to use teamspeak with it, it won't handle it.....

I just didn't feel like reading all the post. I run mine on a Dell Inspiron 8600 with
512 ram not sure of type to lazy to look.
P4 1.6 ghz
128mb radeon 9600 pro turbo
30 gig HD

the only problem i have is with heat. If i don't play with risers to keep it off my lap or table then i run the problem of overheating the cpu after an hour or so of playing BF2. I can run my settings on high but it takes to damn long to load into a game on high. As it looks just fine to me on low. But i'm not a big grafic junkie as long as the game plays at 40 fps or more i am happy.

With this mp fps rnage like this.

full 16 server on karkland: 50-70
32: 40-60
64:  35-50

16 ghost town: 50-70
32:  50 giver or take 1 or two frames.
64: 45-50 depending on server

16 warlord: 45-70
32: 45-50
64: 40-45

My fps are about the same on all other maps but since i play Karkland in bf2 and ghost town/warlord on sf the most those are the ones i took it from

EDIT:
I plan on building a desktop replacement and keep the laptop for travel. Mainly because of better and generally cheaper parts for the pc as well as probably wont ever have to worry about temp again.

Well, I think I have everyone beat when it comes to crappiness in computers for playing BF2.  I play on a Dell Inspiron 5150 computer.  Some of the stats are 512 MB RAM, 30 GB hard drive, 2.66 GHz P4, and a GeForce 5200 graphics card.  Needless to say, I can only even attempt to play the game on all of the lowest settings.  And lag is always a killer too.

well i have a fujitsu-siemens labtop.
the amilo-1425 series i think
1.8mhz
80gb harddrive
1gb ram
ati mobile 9700 (128mb) graphics card

And it runs fine on low settings. And it has wide screen.

LIke a lot of others I have the dell inspiron 9300.
I went with the 2ghz upgrade on the cpu, also it is a mobile chip and it generates almost no heat. My old laptop would get so hot you could not touch it but this generates almost no heat. I have to play something graphic intensive to even get a little bit of warmth.
the 6800 nvidia go (I overclocked it a little because they seemed to have underclocked it so they could sell more xps's)
7200rpm 60 gig hd
dvd layer 2 burner
1 gig ram

Does having 2 gig ram really make that much difference?
Plays the bf2 great on high settings. It is not really a laptop but a desktop that has a battery. It is pretty heavy and big

i recently bought a new PC with what i think is great for me. While in the procces of choosing a new pc i came across two very good laptops that defently could handel BF2. you should be able to find them on your own by following the web pages:

I play on a Dell Inspiron XPS Gen 1.

2G of ram (upgrade from 1 to 2 and it helped a lot)
Graphic Card: MR 9800 256Mb

I play at Medium settings, resolution @ 1600x1200, no AA.

If I had to buy one today, it would be Dell Inspiron Gen 2, it has the best graphic card available at the moment (for laptop).

I run BF2 on a no-name laptop:

Pentium 4 - 660 (3.6GHz, the 'better' one than the 560)
2GB Dual Channel RAM
2x60GB SATA RAID0 hard drives
GeForce 6800Ultra 256MB
etc, etc

I run maxxed out at 1600x1200, the game doesnt support widescreen (1920x1200).
I couldn't wait for the AMD FX cpu version of this laptop to come out tho, and I bought it just before the GeForce 7800 came out in mobile version.
Tho at 15lbs...I hesitate to call this thing a laptop.
I have a friend that has the Dell XPS Gen2 laptop, he paid slightly less than I did for mine, and he also can run BF2 pretty much full out also, tho I load new maps much faster, and my frame rates are higher (noticeable in smoke or water or lots of people running around).  His laptop also weighs just over half what mine weighs (my power brick is as heavy as his laptop lol!), and definitely does not generate near as much heat as mine does.  I also consider mine more 'future proof' if there is such a thing in computers....I can upgrade to 4GB RAM, and have a 64bit CPU (which 64bit is pretty useless now....but sure runs 64bit Linux nice!)
Anyways to sum up, dollar for dollar you'll get more bang for your buck out of a desktop, but at the same time, if you prefer not to have to lug around a full desktop system to lan parties or whatever, there are laptops out there that are fully capable of playing games and looking good doing it.

Oh and to the_heart_attack about playing lan at 30,000 feet, they might not like it if you use your wireless lol, it might jam up their systems or something?

Sorry for the long post   its my first.

well you need at least keyboard (and mouse of course lol) with that lap top and then there's problem with small screen. But if that small screen isn't problem then laptop with keyboard would be nice. Especially while working

Emachines M6805
1.280 G RAM (I had to upgrade to that myself)
60 G harddrive
64 mb Radeon 9600/9700 mobility
AMD Athlon 64 bit 3000

whoo hoo...i only paid 800 dollars for it...and this is to anyone thinking about buying a "gaming" system built by alienware or some other "gaming" hardware company...DONT...you can get whatever it is that you want chepaer and faster by either:

a. building it yourself

or

b. searching/customizng you pc from dell or compaq or whatever

EXAMPLE: The guy that buys a $7000 alienware system that only has 1 or 2 G RAM, etc... WTF Do your research and find the best deal.  I recommend this site for anyone wanting to get a graphics card or some other type of upgrade

I was wondering, there is a new sony vaio laptop out that is pretty good with portability. It has a 128 MB Nvidia 6400 Go TC. I know the TC cards suck, but for a laptop at this caliber (has a 13.3 inch screen!!! ) the Nvidia card is better than other laptops in its class. Just wondering if it can blay BF2 in Medium setting well w/o lags with it. Also, consider if the laptop had a 6200 Go TC, cause they have two models but the only difference is one with 6400 and one with 6200 and the one with 6200 is cheaper.

Also, bear in mind the main reason I am getting this sony is for work and portability, not strictly for gaming. I am not looking for a gaming laptop!!! I just am curious of how BF2 will run if I play it on this laptop.
