Possible "Connection Lost" solution...?

(Yes, I did a search, but I'm not reading through 10,000 threads of all the people that are having this issue to see if this was suggested...ok, I read through about 100.)

Just thought I'd throw this out there...My son and I play on the same computer with different profiles, and he suddenly started seeing the "Your Connection to the server has been lost" about every 1/2 hour or so for a couple of days (and I stop ALL unneccesary local services prior to starting bf2).
Me being the Network/SSL Engineer, I updated the NIC drivers, did a netstat -a (to see if anyone was connected to me and sucking up my bandwidth), etc...but he still saw the problem.
Thinking to myself about packet loss on switches that are set to "autonegotiate" instead of a static 100/full, I thought to myself, "It CAN'T be that simple..."

I went into the options for BF2, and the connection settings, and saw that his connection was set to T1/LAN, not Cable/DSL (or whatever it says). I set it to cable, and he has not had the problem for 4 days of solid playing (and I DO mean "SOLID" playtime - about 24 hrs total).

The problem becomes that if it is set to T1/LAN, BF2 tries to push/pull packets in and out at a much faster rate than the cable/DSL/dial-up (*snicker*) can handle, and collisions/dropped packets occur; eventually causing the server to drop the funky connection.

Like I said, in the threads I read I did not see this suggestion out there anywhere, but what the hell; if I help one soldier, my job is done.

Short version:

he's saying switch the connection option to cable if you have cable/dsl, that way there isn't as much or no data loss.

Ahhh...re-read it and understood it. Good thing I set mine to Cable/DSL when I got the game.

I had the same problem....when I initially set up the game, I clicked on T1 thinking "hell....faster is better right!!"....wrong! Gotta have it on the setting that most closely represents your connection speed - or it does just what you said....I am surprised you did not see this out there - glad you figured it out on your own though - sometimes it is the simple stuff that screws you all up!!!

Funny thing is, I think this may have gotten reset to T1/LAN after 1.3...I'm SURE I set his to cable when setting his profile up. Go figure.

But crashes don't occur every 1/2 hour, which is what he (and a bunch of others) was seeing (and I wasn't) on several different servers.

Now if we can find a simple solution to the CTD ie. when I log on too BF2, pick my server, wait while it loads and then as soon as it loads boom CTD and I get to start it all over again

Seremaker, click the 'auto-ready on' button before you join. If you hear a click sound, you can join safely, otherwise wait till you hear the click sound and then you can join. Good luck!

yeah I've got my "auto ready" set but I still get CTD { not alot maybe every 5 days [ i bet i'll ctd tonite]} I just hate it - map loads, kit and spawn screen pops up and then the music gets stuck and boom CTD

Im not the only one that noticed this I see. Thanks for the info Cup, I changed that on mine soon after 1.3 came out and I was having that problem. Occasionally I still have it, but only when the server itself crashes or goes down. My game personally hasnt done it since......(finding clear spot of desk to knock on wood)

mine is set to cable 256 or better and I still experience the dredded "problem with your connection" although Im guessing as most said its when the server crashes.most recent was tonite,I was commander they had 1 ticket left were about to get the win and bingo !! now the question is if it was server crash do I still get the win and x2 points or did I lose those stats? hope not...

Hello Killer,

If you go out of the game before the end of the round, you keep you stats but you lose the x2 if you don't come back into the game before the end of the round.
That means, you out , come back as fast as possible!!

there was no way to get back in b4 the round ended as it was the end of the round.checking my stats this morning I found that I not only didnt get the x2,but no points/kills for that round at all.
I know this as I played 2 more rounds after and those = points and stats are all that shows this morning.
oh well,shant not complain or bitch anymore as we know and wait in desparation for 1.4.
if 1.4 doesnt take care of the issues, then this game is unfortunat;y not worth playing anymore for me...

I have the same problem - even using the auto ready trick.....sometimes I get it 3 times a night....sometimes never. Intermittent problems....the hardest to fix.

Mine is weird though. It happens exactly 15 minutes into gamplay. If the round finishes before 15 minutes then I can go on to play again, but at exactly 15 minutes (to the second. I have a stopwatch and everything) it says that there is a problem with my connection and kicks me out.

I thought that I had this problem whipped after uninstall Mcaffee, but a couple days later it happened again.

What could be happening 15 minutes into gameplay?????????????????????????

Since the server crashed, all data were lost and nothing (times, points, awards) could be reported. That's something we have to live with - otherwise pause the game until 1.4 (hopefully) fixes the crashes.

I guess I lost around 2,000 points and some stars but I actually don't bother (fortunately I had to redo just one award).

Lmao i still get the same problem and had my con. set to cable since? day one i think. Its when i installed patches 1.3 and up that i been noticing con. errors. For some reason i get these errors twords the ending of a Long round wich sucks because i instantly loose a life and sometimes i get thrown on the enemy team wich is loosing .
