Sorry forgot to add the part I am debating is the getting the Extreme Edition of the core duo. I know that the real benifit comes in the Overclocking ability so that where the extra price is justified. I also know next year the Kentsfield will be comin out which is quad core. Hopefully it will be the same socket.

I'd definitely build it yourself too. You'll save a ton of money in the long run, plus have the pride of doing it yourself.

www.cyberpowerinc.com...Let's you conigure it, AND they build it for you...
(I built enough rigs when I was younger...let someone else do it for a change.

And it doesn't have to be an Intel processor...Bonus!

Yep, build it yourself. DO get the Intel processor, nearly double the speed of their AMD counterparts, now that they've got rid of the extreme gayness that was Netburst. The Xeon chip's nice too.

Funny you should say that. This is my second Alienware and aside from an inaccurate ship date it has been excellent. For giving me a bad ship date they sent me a gift certificate to amazon.com for 50 bucks. Their service has been right on the ball. The myth that it is cheaper to build than to buy is getting exposed more and more. I have a friend who is building and he is getting a very similar system. Most of his parts are from Newegg

He is around 200 dollars cheaper. I think it's worth it for alieware to build it and warrenty it. These are facts.

If you want I'll make him come in here and admit it...lol

I configured an Alienware with the same specs as you listed and got a price of $4,135.00.

I added up all the DIY parts you listed and got a price of $4098.92.

While the figures are close, take into account that the DIY setup includes the $703.20 price of the Dell monitor, and the Alienware has no monitor included. Subtract the price of the monitor from the DIY price and it comes out to $3395.72. BIG difference in price if you ask me.

Erm... what? I could never buy alienware for three reasons - 1, overpriced - 2, I can build my own - and 3, they are part of dell!!

You are aware that 300 also comes off that price since the upgrade of the video card is free(It doesnt show in the final price). Puts it closer.
I have heard the DIY argument for years and even the ones pushing for it have said "wow thats pretty close" with regards to this latest system.

I don't know how you got your figures.
BTW I already have that monitor and it is kick ass.

This would be the system closer to his System @
3,072 -300 = 2,772
The monitor I would of course not buy from alienware but I would hardly consider that DIY if I purchased it somewhere else.

Grand total of $3,476 Which is pretty damn close to what he paid.

Alienware is a separate entities with it's own manufacturing and marketing tactics and quality. Only good came out of that deal with regards to logistics. It's just Micheal Dell get's a a new house and yacht now.

I don't see that at all. I've gone through the whole process until the last step before you actually submit your order and nowhere do I see anything that indicates a $300 reduction in price. The way it looks like the deal works is that you get to upgrade to the 7950GX2L for the same price as the 7900GTX upgrade.

um if you buy this (it looks nice, but overpriced and related to dell i just readed, anything related to dell sucks ass ), say what "high performance 7.1audio" it is, cause onboard already is 7.1, "high performence" is the latest creative series

Those are some damn good parts. 4 gigs seems a bit overkill but everything else is unbelievable. I'm assuming the 10k RPM drives that are 150GB each are the new raptors which are kickass too. Aside from the obvious price hike and horrendous service these people give you, the computer has good parts nonetheless.

hmmm, i'm so not convinced that buying from a manufacturer is cheaper than DIY...I saved easily $1,000-$1,500 on my last build.  newegg.com, kids.

lol, that's alienware marketing fluff, not exactly what we like to call objective information.
