Besides which, what did you want them to do?  It was pretty clear that they were planning to withdraw from Iraq, which meant the only motivation could have been to keep them in Iraq.  So if they'd gone back in, they would have been playing into the terrorist's hands.

The terrorist attacks in Madrid were dealt with appropriately - through criminal investigations not warmongering. Acts of criminality should not be countered with acts of war. Subsequent arrests, investigations and police operations virtually destoryed the Spanish network of Al Qaeda - and didn't require Spain declaring war on UAE or some such country.

Focus should be on terrorism prevention and the issues that are spawning 'terrorism' - punishment should be of secondary concern. I'd be fairly ceratin that the 'punishment' ethos adopted by the US and UK (i.e., invasion and war) has actaully increased the number of terrorists in the world. Tony Blair practically conceded that fact with his speech last night looking for a new approach, one of moderation.

Problem with this is that the only thing Israel is doing by bombing civlian dense areas is creating a whole new generation of people who will hate them because they lost relatives and friends. Ergo it seems we have come to the old saying of "violence begets violence".

It must be said that Hezbollah is not a terrorist organisation, and is a "political party with civlian and military wings" founded in the 1980s to repel the Israelis after they invaded Lebanon. Also it is interesting to note that Hezbollah (being a political entity that holds seats in parilaiment) provides social services such as hospitals and garbage collection for the Lebanese people.

Heres a lovely quote from one of their head honchos, for all of you that think they're ou to get you:

So it seems theyre not the monsters you make them out to be (although it must be said they did go and provoke this fight)

But as usua the Israelis over reacted. You all read the article where Hezbollah asked for a prisoner transfer, but it seems that the Israelis feel that its better to keep fighting for some reason.

And whose dumb idea was it to put the Jewish population centre in the middle of the largest concentration of Muslims in the world anyway (and piss them off at the same time too?)?

Uh-huh..........except that the Palestinians were defending themselves against an aggressor initially.  Besides which, how can you argue that you're defending yourselves if you are actively settling in areas that don't belong to you?

Man......this thread symbolizes the problem in the Middle East.....it goes round and round and round - it's like 2 little kids fighting - they won't stop hitting each other until the other one stops....so they keep hitting each other.  Both sides have too much pride to stop, so they live with constant "tit for tat" exchanges....followed by 2-3 months of "peace".  Unfortuately, their spats spill over to the rest of the world and sucks the rest of us in....the U.S. politicians are to scared to loose their PAC money to stop supporting Israel, so they keep right on arming them - which also destroys our credibility by dismantaling our netrality.  The bottom line is...get used to it people - just like generations before us, violence in the Middle East will never stop.  I feel bad for the kids that get caught up in it and suffer because their parents are a bunch of a-holes.

Lisik, this is about the only time you will see me in this section, when I read your headline I thought you ment Europe up as in, The Final Countdown and long floppy hair, blue jeans and white T shirts and blazers.  If you remember the band Im on about you will get my humour.

In Europe we like to debate/compromise/negotiate before we die thanks, give it a go and maybe you wouldn't get bombed all the time!

By the way you can say whatever you like about Muslims, fact is they've had several countries for several thousand years whereas Jews get kicked out of every place they settle. Go figure.
