I'm pretty damn sure he was kidding. If not, well, I don't have 800+ dollars to drop on RAM alone. kthx.KungfuBeer wrote:

2.2GHz Pentium 4 and Radeon 9600 256MB.iNeedUrFace4Soup wrote:
What are the rest of your system specs though? 2GB of ram won't help if you have a GeForce3 and a Pentium2.
stick with 2 gigs, if you look at benchmarks preformance starts to get a little screwy when you start going up, it decreases at some point. 2 is a good limit and will run everything fine. Look for low cas latency timings though.
i thought raid5 wasent supported with a normal mobo could be wrong, im sort off new to this, just know the basiscs (bit more)jOiNt_frAGGeR wrote:

ps: get linux, you can run 16 gb then
PS: 8gig will be maybe too much for vista...maybe...
i have a gig and im usually one of the first to spawn.GeneralAssMan wrote:

think it depends more on server location/ping
yea i was kidding, i only have 4
rootbeer is right. What is your GPU rootbeer? (video card)
2 Gigs is plenty. There is no point in having more than that, run some benchmarks and check it, there's just not that much data, even if you had a hundred GBs of RAM you wouldn't have anything to fill it with, so it wouldn't go any quicker - you want faster RAM with nice low latencies (Geil One RAM is nice, CL1.5). Unless of course you want to run an 8GB ramdisk instead of installing to a HDD, that'd be nice - you can get them on nice PCI expansion cards, very quick indeed. Or a new hard drive, or a new CPU but most important is your GPU.
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition can support upto 128GB if you really want loads, and many 64 bit OSs provide support for much more than that. x86_64 architecture chips support upto 280 Exabytes (48-bit memory addressing (only really 40-bit, but they squeeze another 8 out anyway)).
Vista will definately support more than 8GB, since it is designed with 64-bit architectures in mind.

Spawn time is mainly determined by Hard Drive speed, get a nice striped raptor array and you'll be stealing all the vehicles to your hearts content.rootbeer73 wrote:

No wonder I take so long to load, I have to listen to the loading song 1 whole time usually. It used to be 1 and 1/2 times until I upgraded to 1 GB from 512MB. My hard drive isn't even SATA, it's just a crappy a crappy nameless ATA 115GB hard drive.Bertster7 wrote:

The most I've seen BF2 load into memory was about 1.2Gb's on a 64 Player Devils Perch map.... Havent checked Iron Gator.. I suspect thats in a similar range.. If not more... Thats a rough map for some reason......
What I'm saying is that unless you've got a LOT of background stuff going on, you'll see no difference between 2gb's and 4
With only 1gb, BF2 needs to use the swap file which slows down loading quite a bit.......

I can't imagine what it had to do to load when I only had 512MB of RAM.Impaqt wrote:

I have to disagree with his statement. I went from 1 gig to 4 and nothing else and I found myself spawning before anyone else. So I thought maybe its the server but I seem to do it on any server and am still doing it to this day. Remember nothing changed on my system except the memory. One thing I will say is get the fastest and best memory you can afford. Hope this helps.Bertster7 wrote:

it wont help if u have celeron chip either... i upgraded and it didnt help.. i gotta get a new chip.
Sorry dude, have to call you out on this one. Raid 5 is the slowest option. Raid 1 not as bad. Raid 0 fast but no "Safety". Reason - Raid 5 has to do the calculations for Striping with Parity. The Disk controller has that added work to deal with which slowes it down. For Reading Raid 1 wold be better because it is pulling from identical discs but for writing it is slower because it is writing to 2 disks.jOiNt_frAGGeR wrote:

A bit of a waste of money. Any more than 3 to 4 is ample.david363 wrote:

I just bumped my Ram up a GB the other day, and it was a huge help. I really can't believe the game dealt so much through the RAM, but things are good, so I won't complain.
