- If American Indian's still owned America?
thats a good question, the Anishinabe (ojibwa, chippewa) have history as far back as the 1300's here in the US. If the native nations had not been invaded I really dont know what would of happened..cpt.fass1 wrote:
Yup it was a society Based on living with the land, and say the Europeans didn't discover it? What kinda progress do you think the Natives of this land would have made by now? Indianscout please your input would be most beneficial in this discussion..
European's didn't know anything about a lot of the world back then.
the nations as a whole were like any other people, we never got along went to war with each other and invaded and took each others lands..
so I think we would of progressed like any other nation, but would of been in constant battles similar to the middle east right now I think..
This might help as well ..^*AlphA*^ wrote:

I think if it was not conquered by the europeans it would have been conquered by the asians. It would have been cool to have a country of little nationstates each with their own tribe of indians. A lot fewer wars would have started.
to ask what it would be like if American Indians still owned America implies that they ever did own America. Such an implication is entirely a misunderstanding of their very nature. They had no system of ownership and never viewed themselves as owners of the land, or anything really.
Indian's had terroritories which is ownership, Manhatten was bought for a neckless wasn't it? If it was bought then it was owned so it might not have been a deeded ownership but occupation is a form of ownership, and by the year 2006 I'm sure there would have been a system set up..
thats a mythPuckMercury wrote:

Took the South from Mexico? Perhaps you meant the Southwest.^*AlphA*^ wrote:
But you "Americans" back then called and probably felt "American" yes Europeans came to America, the east coast, probably took down some Indians there, but Europeans never moved to the west. you Americans defeated England, The French lost there land. Americans moved west and took the west from the Spanish and the south from Mexico. and what happened to the Indians when Americans moved to the west....well what do you think...
Lincoln was a shitty President. He was the first to piss on the Constitution, and now we've got old Dubya carrying on his Republican bullshit tradition.BFROE|IndianScout wrote:
Abraham Lincoln...
In 1862, President Abraham Lincoln ordered the execution, by hanging, of 38 Dakota Sioux prisoners in Mankato, Minnesota. Most of those executed were holy men or political leaders of their camps. None of them were responsible for committing the crimes they were accused of. Coined as the Largest Mass Execution in U.S. History. (Brown, Dee. BURY MY HEART AT WOUNDED KNEE. New York: Holt, Rinehart, Winston, 1970. pp. 59-61)
But to stay on topic:
Even before the "official" colonialization of the Americas, people had been coming here for ages. Be it the Vikings, Polynesian [sic] or Asians. Look at the Eskimo's, they have an Asian look about them. Where as alot of the Eastern/Southern American and Canadian Indians have European features. Someone would've ended up making an organized empire of this land. It could've been the Natives through a great leader and organizer. Or it could've been foriegn settlers.
not a myth. The "sale" of a territory was based on their agreement to no longer occupy said territory.
Whether or not you truly are the illustrious IndianScout, to try and purport yourself as him conveys more than a little bit of ignorance (who the hell would want to be IndianScout?), so excuse me if I don't particularly take to heart your opinion on the matter.

being born and raised on my reservation it's a little more than just an uneducated opinion it's fact..PuckMercury wrote:

I'm reading 'Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee' right now and I'll tell you - if I was an American I'd be doing a hell of a lot more to make amends with the natives than giving them rights to open Casinos, etc. Make the Navaho Nation an Independent State with US dominion status or something!!!
The San Manuel Indian Nation of 200 or so members do quite well... albeit most American Indians are not well off.BFROE|IndianScout wrote:
indian nations while alot of them do have casinos ours included, provide much needed employment to communities who's unemployment rates average about 45-80%
most tribal nations dont get rich off the casino's like the public seems to think we do, nor do we all get those "free" govt checks another myth..
But as for the OP question, well, my guess would be that the Nazi's would have ruled the world (what with no industrialized USA to fight them). Considering most indians were pre-disposed to "living with the land", I doubt that they would have progressed as far as the Europeans in developing weapons of mass destruction.

They would have been taken over by someone else, they were far too kind hearted , at least most of them before they knew what the white man was & had to defend themselves.
They had the chance to let the first pilgrims starve but they fed them out of kindness of human spirit.
It's like the noob in Civ IV that doesn't know how to build, they just got slaughtered.
This is an example of what we would do to a new culture or species, we are still far to young to have so much responsibility, we will have to mature quickly if we are to survive.
And lets not even bring up the Eskimos, our culture destroyed their way of life & turned them into drunks.
Sorry I'm getting off topic.
We must never let mistakes like this happen again for we had much to learn from the Indians that is forever lost now.

You're too PC to make such broad and prejudiced generalizations.TrollmeaT wrote:

Come on dude, no offense, but that was 300 years ago, I think the standards and ideology of the U.S. Government has changed since then.BFROE|IndianScout wrote:
it is funny tho that we would invade iraq cause saddam was killing 1000's of his people..
hell the US Govt wipped out an estimated 20M natives yet nothing ever happened to them..
In this case, American History is wrong. I guess the college course I just finished on it was a waste of time and completely wrong. I agree 100% with Puck.BFROE|IndianScout wrote:

They would still be as we found them, a few scattered communities of stone age, semi nomadic, scavenger hunters, that occasionally war with each other, living near a water supply. As would be the case in Africa most of south east Asia and Australia, eventually Japan or China would have reached them if the Europeans hadn't and their fates would have been far worse.
I really can't imagine what could be 'far worse' than the atrocities committed by Europeans in slave trading times. Care to enlighten me? I hope it's not going to involve your basement and a pig again.Horseman 77 wrote:
