My friend wants a new card for his x8 AGP slot. He uses an ATi Radeon 9600Pro and wants to upgrade. I only want to use ATi so don't even recommend NVidia cards.

- What is the best ATi card for the AGP slot?
Shit, wrong forum. Could a mod please move this to tech?

for the AGP slot I believe it's the x850xt, although I think you should get the nVidia 6800 (gs/vanilla/GT, but NOT XT) or an x800gto2 if you want a midrange card (midrange = can run game on highs, but no 500x AA and such)
I'm an ATi guy but if he wants NVidia, I guess that's what he'll get. Why are there no mods that can move this to tech?
My card is mid-range (6800gs) and i get 30 fps on lows/mediums.SargeV1.4 wrote:

I have an ATI X1600 in an AGP 8x slot and it rawks. Plus it is fairly cheap now and if you have good enough RAM and processor it can run BF2 on high. Hope this helps
i have a X850XT PE and i get 80 solid FPS with shadows off and with shadows on i get 40FPS solid. But the best card for a AGP is a Gainward 7800GS 512MB Golden Sample, its a nvidea card but aparently the nest lokking at the frame rates.
Yea IMO the best ATI AGP card is indeed the x850 XT PE, BUT its expensive, 200++ (not worth it)
But for the best price is the x1600PRO AGP,
I have it, it runs hot, never overheats though, I could run BF2 on all high settings but my RAM and CPU limits me
But really I make it sound like a great card , in essence, its not lol trust me , so unless your friend cant upgrade to PCIe, and can spend 250+ for a card get the x850 XT PE (rare though...)
**Edit yea the 7800GS is good, but the AGP bus limits its bandwidth a LOT, and its rather pricey.... but hey whatever its not my money

I just recently got an x800 GTO, and I am pretty happy with it. I can run 1024x768 with all mediums/highs and get and average of 40 fps. But I run the graphics a little lower for better frame rate. IF you can find an x850 then I would say go for it.
Im using an X800pro in an 8x APG that I got when they first came out and im able to run BF2 and a lot of other new games on high settings including Oblivion with no problem, maps may take a little while longer to load, but I can deal with it.
