its overheating. your graphics card is too hot, i suggest get an aftermarket cooler lik VF900cu

i've not had that prob but ive got a few ideas you could try.

delete everything inside the cache folder in My Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\cache & let it reoptimise.
change gfx driver to latest official release if your using a beta or tweaked version driver if youve recently changed updated them.
try lowering gfx setting a bit cause maybe your gfx cards overheating, mainly the more powerhungry ones like
texture filtering,dynamic shadows,terrain quality,effects quality.
or try underclocking your gfx card a little as well as lowering the gfx settings or just check your gfx card fan aint dirty & clogged up if your a smoker.
try your gfx card in another pc see if its still the same.

none of the above are surefire fix's or nothing but they should help you find out what the problem is.

Before you do all that stuff, get a simple case fan and mount it where it blows either onto your graphics card or sucks air away from it. BEcause what you have sounds like standard overheating graphics card...

sounds like its overheating.    first CLEAN YOUR CASE OUT!!!   Dust causes major heat issues.

Use a can of compressed air, and blow all the dust out of your case and off the video card.  Use a qtip to get the dust off of fan blades.

If that doenst help, get another fan.   Also try an aftermarket cooler for the video card.

b4 you open the case, touch an unpainted metal to release all the electricity in your body so theres no static shock that may fry the motherboard

Most cases generally have a side panel that comes off with one or two screws. Don't touch anything inside if you don't know what you're doing, but take a can of compressed air bought at a place like Office Depot, keep it held upright, and blast every bit of dust you can off your parts, making especially sure that fans, heatsinks and any other odd protrusions are clear of dust. Do this outside if you want to avoid a royal mess. Don't let the can touch any part.

If you are a smoker, you may have to physically peel layers of sticky hair, dust, and brown grit off of your parts. In this case, if you don't want to learn what you are doing through a book like this, I can only recommend that you have a friend, or in a last resort scenario, a local tech do it for you.
