I have two HDD running from the main IDE port on my mobo, and two cd drives running off the secondary.

However, in "My Computer", the first HDD is C:, and the second HDD is F:, with the two CD drives as D: and E:.

Now up until I last restarted my computer, my second HDD was D: (Feck knows why this suddenly has changed), so all of the things I installed on that second HDD have registry entries pointing to D:. This obviously causes problems now my comp has decided to call the second HDD F:.

So my question is, how do I change my second HDD to be D: again?

Unhook the CD drives, start up, shut down, hook them back in, start up, check. Sometimes, Windows will automatically correct this. Sometimes you have to manually change the drive letter.

In this case (the easiest option following), right-click 'My Computer,' click manage, go to 'Storage,' click 'Disk Management,' right-click the drive in question, and click 'Change Drive Letter and Paths...' A window with the drive letter should pop up. Make sure that's highlighted and click the 'Change' button. Make sure the bullet is by 'Assign the Following Drive Letter.' To the right of that, a pull-down menu will list all available drive letters. Select and click 'OK.'

It may be that you'll need to change your D: CD to G: before it will allow you to change your F: HD to D:. If so, do this, and once the HD is corrected, change that G: CD to F:, to top it off.

Be sure any software you have won't protest the drive letter change. If so, it may be that shortcuts will have to be revised, and rarely (with older apps), software would have to be reinstalled. Good luck.

[edit]Windows XP has the annoying habit of coming in two flavors of interface. Mine has 'My Computer' on the desktop. Yours may have that, or may have stuck 'My Computer' on the start menu.[/edit]

Cheers dude that worked a treat. It would have taken me ages to find that setting.

A well deserved +1 for you.
