Evolution is fact and has been proven, you're getting a bit confused. I understand it as much as I need to, whilst I have never read The Origin of Species, I have read a few more contempary books on the subject (I don't claim to be an expert) and I know enough to confidently say that it is fact, not merely theory. Evolution has been proven to happen, it has not been completely and absolutely conclusively proven how humans evolved, but the evolution of many other species has been proven, absolutely. Arguing to someone that there is no god is pointless. When you have a hypothetical omnipotent being, it is impossible to provide evidence contrary to his or her existence because one can simply invent a way for the god to work around any counterpoint. Intelligent design is an example. Evolution is developed as a theory of creation, and suddenly a theory is developed that God created evolution, thus creating life. Its impossible to argue against a foe with no restrictions.
That said, I am atheist and even if I did believe in a god, I wouldn't foolishly let it affect how I live my life.
