Upgrading my PC

Hi!

My old system is:

AMD 3300+ Sempron
nVidia 6600GT (AGP)
1.5gt RAM

What im thinking about to get:

AMD 64 3500+ Athlon
pci-e mobo, not DDR2
nVidia 7900GT (pci-e)

So question is: Could those components run my BF2 on all high w/ good resolution?
Or should i get something like x2 4200+ and DDR2 memories (and save some more money)?

Before anyone suggests something like those new Intel processors, my budget is currently limited to ~500€

A 7900 is going to run all high, 4xAA on 1600x1200.
A 3500+ should not peak out running BF2.

The only thing I would add [at your budget] is to try to get up to 2Gb of RAM.
I say this because BF2 uses around 1.5Gb of memory, XP uses 200-300Mb. If you have 2Gb then you should be using RAM for most of your resources rather than pagefile. This can made a big difference in game.

Thanks for help!

I propably can get my budget raised to something like 700€ so RAM's shouldn't be problem.
I'm still wondering if i should get something like Athlon X2 4200+ (100€ more than 3500+ in Finland) so i could run some future games (like crysis and BF2142) without too many problems.

I would with the new amd am2 socket so you get ddr2 support. It will be better in the long run and better perfomance now. The processor upgrade is a saffe bet because it will last longer. And give you a huge performance boost. The graphics card you picked is great though.

if you want to stick w/ ddr, AMD is dropping its prices, so you should get a X2 4400 for around 240 bucks.

The 4400 is nice but you can overclock the shit out of the 3800+ X2 with its stock cooler. even up to 2.6 which is faster than the 4800+ X2. Its because they use the same core and are pretty much the same chip just the 3800 it told to clock down.

get a dual core, prepare for future games, i would pick a other vid but the one you got is good... wait for the pricedrops thought (all mentioned before)
