Kerry got a Purple Heart for a chunk of rice hitting him in the ass. That would've won the hearts and minds of the world for America, right there.

Just curious if anyone knows what Kerry's did in the Military? Infantry, Pilot, tanker ect.......? Probably a combat correspondant!
I thought you Americans always stood by your troops. Bad-mouthing a vet? Very nice.
Kerry a Vet???? Kerry was never a doctor for animals!

you cant really call him a vet... coz he didnt really go into combat... he did pretty much nothing. the 3 purple hearts he had were fake, he never been in that much action, and i bet he only has one purple heartCameronPoe wrote:

Not a vet? He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Conflict, in Vietnam (which, btw, is all that is needed to be classified a 'vet'). He saw battle, from a swift boat. In case you are unfamiliar with swift boats, they are similar to the PT boats of WW2, except they stuck to rivers. The swift boats saw plenty of action on the rivers. Ambushes, supply interdictions, troop transport, etc.cyborg_ninja-117 wrote:

if kerry were in charge the "internet tax" would no doubt have sailed through
he was also repeatedly reprimanded for endangering his squad by doing idiotic things like beaching the boat so he could chase down unarmed targets and shoot them in the back, and all of his purple hearts were superficial, field treatable injuries, the most severe being some grenade shrapnel..........from his own grenade that he launched into the bulkhead of his own boat, there are reasons why he hasn't made his service records public, every other soldier turns down the purple heart for these types of injuries reserving the honor of it for those that were injured to the point of requiring hospitalization

this thread died quickly when we left the good discussion and moved into flaming the president and former vet.
Yes, I may not agree with what Kerry says, but he is still a former vet, whether you like it or not. Who cares how he got the purple hearts, but he does have them and that is more than bush can say.
We are never going to change how one thinks so lets keep to the facts and not wonder off subject.

Something I don't quite understand either. Surely going to war and serving your country is still better than sitting on your ass at home?CameronPoe wrote:

Kerry as Pres. lol Apples and apples. Bush speaks like down home and Kerry speaks like a priviledged suburbian college debate student. Both are boring to listen to.
Since when has flying an F4 Phantom cowardice? A little military history about reserve military forces is in order. Until the 1990s all US regional or larger wars were fought with 70-90% reservists and draftees, all cowards according to some. If you know you will be in the military during a war its best to find the job you want to fight from first, or you may get stuck with a beat-up Vodnik when you really wanted an Apache.
I know that VP Dan Quayle gave the Nat Guard a bad name back in 88 when he was running with Bush1 but it wasn't the Guard's fault. It was a few people taking advantage of a situation. People tried to cast the same light on Bush2 because he was in the guard. Had the Guard been mobilized for VN, Bush would have been downtown like any other jet jock. As it turned out Vietnam was the only regional/major war the US didn't deploy major Nat Guard troops and look what happened! Traditionally the USs military reserves have had a high percentage of prior active service as well.
Kerry is more like Truman or Johnson than a Churchill or Carter. Kerry if elected in 2004 would have seen all the facts on the War on Terror and kept to the guns just like every US President preceeding him in their wars. Kerry as president would face the same need to save face while withdrawing and that takes time. It took Nixon 5 years to extricate US forces from VN and then it fell a couple years later with US safely out. Kerry or even Hillary is stuck with the same military realities of disengagement, at this point it's easier to win it than leave I think.
The lack or reduction of terrorist attacks around the world since Afghan/Iraq campaigns suggests taking the battle to the enemy worked. Now they are threatening to hit around the world again and that signals that we are winning in Iraq, they can't win that front so they will hit elsewhere - this is the unconventional warfare doctrine. We will leave during the lull and they will redouble efforts to return Iraq to the fold. That is assuming that nothing else goes off like say a Hezbollah/Isreali war....
I can't say who is which but it sure stinks like a tail is wagging the dog.

i bad mouth his idiocy, a uniform is something to be taken into consideration, not a free pass, I don't lick someone's boots because they are dressed up in the beefeater kit (gotta be the best uniform ever, maybe a tie with the vatican's guard), it's like this, you don't think there's ever been a fireman with a computer full of kiddy porn? or a cop that sells the drugs he confiscates? I defend those like slinger who have not given me any cause to question their loyalties or motives, Kerry however specifically told those around him in vietnam that his service was something he did to put on his resume and he was going to earn 3 purple hearts so he could use it as a stepping stone to become the next JFK
So why is it that everyone that serves in the army is worshipped on here, and automatically assumed to be a good person?
innocent until proven guilty, the conditions surrounding kerry's service condemned him (repeatedly endangering his squad for instance)
So you do, or you don't?kr@cker wrote:

We shouldn't judge Kerry too harshly about his desires to be a hero or the next "JFK". There are plenty of historical examples of people who bit the bullet while seeking heroic status as well as other who made it big. Kerry was under fire in the "brown water navy", was scared shitless like every soldier before or since when under heavy fire in his floating bullet magnet and could have never been heard from again. Bush may have had a flameout over some Texas desert and had a parachute streamer into a small crater and also may have never been heard from again.
Back to topic, what would Kerry do differently than Bush after 2004? Not much. Being president is like driving a luge all you can do is steer and shift your weight around. If you blink, stop or crash before the end of the race you lose.

Back on topic, I don't believe that the Isreal situtation would be any different, in fact, most of the world would be the same, just with any luck, we would have got out of Iraq a while ago. Oh and America would be less universally hated.

Good job though comparing Bush to Stalin, I'm sure he'd like that.
You want to know what I think of this column? It's a waste of fucking space in a newspaper. That space could have been taken up by penis-enlargement pill ads or a coupon for the latest mattress discount store and had more depth than that article. Why are people wasting time and energy still playing out what ifs with John Kerry? The fact is, he's not president. If I were president, everyone in the world would get along, and every wednesday there would be free slushies for everyone. I can make some ridiculous claim too, why doesn't some sydicated columnist write a story on me? Why are people still trying to drag John Kerry through the mud? Give it a rest people, we know he has a face like the moon guy from McDonalds commercials, we know his wife applies makeup with a popgun and is about two surgeries away from a (face) meltdown, so why bring this up?

Its public record he went awol for months didnt report even for a mere physical and dodged service in Vietnam. When he enlisted in the NAG he agreed to 60 months of service and only participatedi n 22. Furthermore besides the awol when he left texas air national guard he tried to go to an Alabama guard unit that had NO air units whatsoever. Its just a fact that Bush was a spoiled ritch kid who used his daddys connections to avoid serving his country. here some exampleskr@cker wrote:

The reason I voted for Kerry instead of Bush was simple.
I wanted a president that didn't look like an idiot in front of the world.
And I wanted a president with a better economic mindset and didn't pass college using Cliff Notes and instead actually has a brain.
I didn't use Kerry Vietnam or Bush's touchy service record to make my decision. In my opinion both were piss poor examples of good military officers. I wouldn't trust either one with a Platoon. So don't even attempt to argue that point with me. It's just a waste of breath because I don't care.
What I want is a president who can make an educated decision based upon information and who can understand the information presented. I want a president who has a vocabulary higher than used by a 15 year old debate team member.
I want a president who has an IQ higher than Clive, who is a primate.
I voted for the more intelligent of the two candiates.
I still want a 3 party system. But that's not going to happen in my life time.
