redhawk, can you please explain how a soldier who is isolated in one part of Iraq and lacking in media coverage can know more than someone who has access to news and events from all over the Iraqi conflict derived from many independant sources?
I'm sorry but it is illogical to say that a soldier knows more about what's going on in Iraq than a civvie. He knows more about his unit and the part of Iraq he is touring in, granted but not the bigger picture.....

He just said that soldier will know more about his particular location.
I can't because you've just reiterated what I said earlier and thus, you are agreeing with me. Also, at no point have I denied the fact it can mess you up in the head being a soldier, I simply pointed out that it is something you should expect when you join the army and not moan about or expect sympathy for it......redhawk454 wrote:

I'm not angry, and my education cost significantly more than yours before you go calling me ignorant. I know full well that war is awful which is why I questioned the OPs decision to join the army. If he saw some awful things he should have expected that. As far as I'm concerned the reason why people who've been to war don't talk about what they did is because they're racked with guilt because of what they've done.Pug wrote:

The guy starts a thread with "I fought in a war and it sucks". You being so anti-war and you FLAME him?
A guy joins the army...do you NOT think he doesn't know what he's getting into?
Your granddad was in MI5 - you disrespect your own grandfather by taking it out on a soldier and NOT government policy. Gee, the MI5 shared info with the CIA re: Iraq, so I guess your own grandfather was a scumbag for having MI5's values...an organization that was associated the Iraq war. He's retired? Well, I guess its okay...since I'm sure that the MI5 values have completely changed and NEVER did anything wrong when he worked for them.
"What are the sob stories you speak of?" - what do you want to do...dance on their graves? or better yet "teabag the bodybags while singing glory to the Queen" (thank you -F8-Scotch)? What you don't believe him that war is bad? I thought you were antiwar?
Think you're better than a soldier? Fine...you fight then. Think you're better than a fireman or policeman? Fine...you do it. Oh right, you don't have to...they are providing social service so you can follow your dreams.
And that Champ...is why you are a suck bag.
Fuck you very much,
Pug
I didn't take anything out on a soldier, my words were "What the fuck did you expect?" which is a pretty reasonably question to someone who chooses to join an organisation that kills people and then moans that it wasn't to his liking...get fucking real!
Your comment in response to me asking Dungs..Gunslinger to quote my "sob stories", as he called them, simply doesn't make sense so I'll ignore it.
"Think you're better than a soldier?" Like I said, last resort, so I guess you'll never know. Policeman/Fireman, again, not far from last resort, and while they're getting paid off my taxes I can moan about them as much as I fucking like too!
Why not stay on topic pug instead of flying off the handle everytime somebody critisises your government. If you can't debate or be serious please piss off...

Gunslinger, you accuse me of posting "sob stories", which you have yet to show me, and then you go and post a (pardon the pun) kr@cker. If going to war gives you some kind of meaning in life or a sense of self worth then fine, just don't be surprised when people critisise your actions, especially when you openly admit you are against the war you are fighting...

I think you should re-read your post before posting such beautiful prose again...I'm not sure what, exactly, you're trying to say, apart from the ass raping by Hitler bit...so clever.
He says Americans have anger issues because of your first sentence. I mean how stupid can you be, obviously really angry with Ricardo and then question him as to why he believes you have a temprement issue.....mnmant wrote:

lolz, and apparently I'm "crying and complaining as he beats the living shit out of my country"...not sure where that came from..in case you hadn't noticed I'm English, not Iraqi. Made me laugh though +1..=OBS= EstebanRey wrote:

War, singular and I really don't want to have the whole revolutionary war debate again. Why is you can't critisise something without people turning into a "you hate our country" thing. I believe Ricardo was commenting on the Army in general and not only the US army.mnmant wrote:

This comment is a very condescending look at something GS probably had no control over. Not all people of this world are blessed with parents who are financially secure. How can you look down your nose at someone who wasn't given as many opportunities as you were? Coming from Oxford, I'd expect a better understanding of this concept with the education you've been given. For those who have to work their way out of the "school of hard knocks", making it in this world is quite an accomplishment. (Meritorious in some cases) The roads to enlightenment/security/wealth/education/etc.. aren't always paved, and in some cases the road must be built completely.RicardoBlanco wrote:

@ the OP. Thanks for the service you've provided to our country.
@ all who are reading and responding in this thread. Please stay on topic and think about what you are posting. I've read too many personal attacks, threats, and flames. This will not be tolerated. Clean it up or expect disciplinary actions to be taken.

Just because someone comes from the "school of hard knocks", whatever the hell that is, doesn't excuse them or justify irrational behaviour. If Gunslinger wants to fight in a war he doesn't beleive in and then try and convince me of the merrits of said war or the actions of his buddies over there I'm sory, but I will beg to differ.GunSlinger OIF II wrote:

oooooooooh i edited again, lets see what you gotta say about that one "lol"....what a punk.
I give everyone the benefit of the doubt until they prove themselves to be fools, which, in this case, he did..
Gunsligers not a fool, he's a passionate warrior. He's learning Farsi so he can go back and reenlist in pysops. He believes in winning the hearts and minds and the cause. He may be bombastic but please don't call him a fool.
You got flamed for going there first, check the thread. You flamed the originator and everyone slapped you around. And I guess you did not read the first post close enough to understand it throughly. It says war is hard on soldiers. You insulted the orginator, and everyone who has ever served or is serving.RicardoBlanco wrote:

A better way of putting your thoughts on this would have been: Wow that's really hard. I wish you wouldn't have had to go there and fight. I disagree with the war.
Not: you are an idiot for signing up for the army.
I didn't say he was an idiot, just seriously misinformed, which he was. If he didn't think he was going to have to kill people or see some horrendous things he shouldn't have joined. I still maintain that people don't talk about what they've done in war because they're guilty about it, simple as. I would never object to anyone who served in the Great Wars, the just ones, or any other JUST war.Pug wrote:

He's going to re-enlist in Psyops AND win hearts and minds?? Do you know what Psyops is?
Thank you for your service and sacrifice. It is MUCH appreciated.
I believe the topic was "War is hard on soldiers". Not about debating the merits of why he was there. So, I asked you to stay on topic - reread my post.RicardoBlanco wrote:

I'm sure that my education is as equal as yours. Education is a great thing, but a college education does not eliminate ignorance. It's what you do with your education. Frankly waving your education as a crutch doesn't make you more intelligent or more believable.
I guess the "what the fuck did you expect comment" is basically offensive because it directly targets the individual.
The idea of a "last resort" comment is basically painting you as an elitist. So, based on this I think you are a few things I despise. It's also possible why you are being flamed by everyone...But I respect your opinions.
All I'm asking you to do Ricardo is to show some respect - tell the guy thanks for his service! It's not politically incorrect to tell someone thanks even though you don't agree with the big picture.
