I have been playing BF2 on my Dell XPS Gen 2. Specs
Cent 2.13
2 x 1Gb DDR2
6800 Ultra
80Gb 5400 HD

The only problem with my laptop is I play BF2 at work 4 hours a day.

What other laptops are out there?

Hmm I don't have a laptop but the Acer Ferrari series seem up for the job, but it's quite hard to find cheap laptops with 2GBs of RAM.

A clan-mate of mine plays BF2 on her second gen XPS laptop...and it's fantastic to behold...great graphics, plenty of RAM, etc...I was thinking about getting one, but the lack of upgradeability makes it a non-starter for me...

My Dell XPS Gen 2 came with 2 x 512Mb ram, I played BF2 for about 3 weeks with 1gb. The laptop ran like shit, so I bought 2 x 1gb. Runs 10 times faster with the extra 1gb. I must be lucky, my company bought my laptop and Ram for me. I love being a Network Administrator! I told them that I needed a good laptop for network Config Apps. LOL

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 and my frind has the Acer Ferarri. Both run BF2 nicely.I can run mine with high settings no problem. But both are also a little heavy. Mines abou 8.5 lbs and my friend's is about 7.6 lbs.

I picked up a PowerPro A 2:21 "ELITE" from powernotebooks.com about 3 months ago. Didn't think it would handle bf2 too well, but I've been happily supprised.

I paid just over $2,100. I'm pretty happy with it.

It came with:
  15.4" WSXGA+ (1680 x 1050) TFT
  PCI-e nVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 w/128MB DDR2 Video Memory
  2.0GHz "Sonoma" Intel® Pentium® 760 M w/2,048k L2 On-die Cache
2,048MB (2 SODIMMS) CORSAIR DDR2/533 Dual Channel Memory
60GB Hitachi Travelstar Ultra ATA/100 Hard Drive at 7,200 RPM
  Combo 8X DVD/24x10x24 CD-RW
  Built-in Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200 802.11b/g
  1-Year "No Dead Pixel" Guarantee
3 Years Parts and Labor Warranty
  Etc, etc.

Since I bought this pre-bf2, I'd spring for a better vid card now. The other downside is they didn't offer anything faster than a 7,200 RPM HD. However, I still load faster than about 90% of most people.

I used this to play almost exclusively now, until I can spring for a nice replacement desktop rig.

My friend (and fellow clan-mate) plays on an HP laptop. He actually plays it pretty well, also. Runs it at Medium and joins servers pretty much 30 seconds after I do. (Im always first in a server).

So, it can be done!

WidowPC has some that look awsome,  I just can't se spending 5,000 on a laptop that I will use about an hour a day at lunch and then when I travel.  I have been looking for something around 2000.  I'm the NA also and have been trying to figure out how to justify it  having been doing the job on a lesser machine.

I have an HP Pavilion zd8000
1gb of ram
3.0 P4
100 GB  hd
17inch widscreen display
logitech G15 gaming keyboard
logitech MX518 gaming mouse
logitech 5.1 surround sound

works pretty damn good  only thing is i might have to upgrade to 2gb of ram other than that it plays this game beautifully.

in terms of pure gaming on a laptop, i would have to agree that the Dell XPS's are the best for the money.  You can get one that'll play at least 1280 x 1024 for under 2g's.

However, i wouldn't want 2 be carrying it around all the time.  Sucker just weighs way 2 much for my taste.

In terms of portability, there are alot of laptops that carry the x700 or 6600 portable cards that run on athlon 64 cpu's.  Your not going to get that great resolution, but you should get decent frame rates at 1024*768.  In terms of manufacturers that carry the Athlon 64 cpu your going to have to look at other manufacturers like asus, acer, and abs.  Should cost you around 1500 for something in that configuration.

Not to mention you can build one yourself to spec.  This option i highly recommend for people who are confident enough to do it themselves and are looking for a portable (4-6 lbs) laptop.

I have a Dell Inspiron 9300 with the 6800go card. 2GB of ram. 2GHZ speed. Runs BF2 perfectly, up till 1600x1200 with 2xAA. I get 30fps then, dropping to 20's when there's smoke and such.

Best part, I used one of those 30% off dell coupons you can find online and the laptop only cost me 1800 bucks. Recommend it to everyone, unless they have enough money to get the new XPS with the 7800go card

Running an Inspiron 9100 that is a year old.  It works, but I hate the load time.  Only 1GB of RAM.  Everyone says an upgrade makes all the difference in the world.

Just wish I could use the newer nvidia cards, stuck with a ATI 9600
