Hi all, first post here.  I know of the ctd desktop problem , and yes it happens to me.  But it also seems that
ever since 1.4 it does a random reboot . just black screen, then reboots. I have noticed a few sound flutters
once in a while , dont know if this is a symtom .

My specs.  amd 2000xp
1 gig ram  , 66oogt , asus a7v333 mb
win xp
on board ac97 sound
newer 500w antec psu
I know pretty sweet system
upgrading in fall

just wondering if you guys think this is a patch issue, or driver, or hardware

and it only seems to happen when i'm having a good round. lol

thx in advance

i get the sound flutters as well, the AC97 on board Sound sucks, only thing you can do to change it is get a SoundBlaster Card or an equvilant.

I'm thinking its more a hardware issue...
If the reboot issue started when you installed your Power Supply, that might be the problem if not it could either be the Mobo is dying on you or it could be your CPU..

Im hoping its just patch 1.4,  i played bf2 since 1.2 and it worked perfect (all low settings , 2 med , aax2)
and this was with the 6600gt and new psu. Never had reboots or ctd or sound flutters until 1.4.

was kinda thinking of in the fall getting an asrock dual mb(both pci-e and agp)  3500amd or so and another gig of ram (probably just some more 333mhz , not worried about dual channel , etc)<-- thoughts?

those look like old specs?

My guess is it's full of dust and overheating.

Take the side off the case and open a can of air on it Reseating the coolers would be a good idea too.

It sure aint the PSU.

I think he meant remove the fans from CPU/GPU clean off the old thermal paste, apply new paste and then reseat the coolers.  If you are not comfortable with this perhaps you should skip it.  Otherwise, it couldnt hurt.

Google can hook you up with plenty of pictorial guides on doing the above.

agreed, sounds like an overheating issue.  To be sure you can disable the automatic restart on system error and if it is NOT a thermal issue, the system will hang at the BSOD you aren't seeing due to the automatic reboot which will let you see various pieces of information you can google to decypher.

May have fixed it, played twice since taking the cover off and finding the mother of all dust bunnies wedged
between the heatsink and fan of the cpu. Had to be an inch square.

thx all who replied , crossing my fingers we're good now
