My friend has poor internet connection speed, hes a good mate of mine from rlf and we both no hardly anything about computers, my internet is fine but he lives and 500 metres away and when he trys to go on bf2 his ping is low then it shoots up too 600. Now that is not right. What can he do/buy to increase the Connection speed and get rid of the high ping and lag. He is with orange and has broadband, 1 meg i think
Yes, upgrade your internet connection to increase SPEED.
Make sure your not using other programs in the background, such as torrent downloaders and shit that has to do with an open internet connection as they can usually raise the ping. my ping is an average of 13 where i live and when i was running utorrent it was a nice 500. lol..

15 more years! 15 more years!
Orange Broadband's not that good anyway. Try getting 8meg from www.plus.net though. They're really good if u live in the UK. They haven't upgraded me to 8meg yet so im still on 2meg, but i never lag on servers as far as romania, after that i hit 100 ping but never mind...
Dezerteagal5 has the right idea with the P2P and file sharing programs.
Any broadband connection will play BF2 fine.
BF2 uses very little but constant amounts of both download and upload bandwidth.
The upload is where you will run into problems, as most private lines have much smaller upload speeds, and the P2P \ file sharing will suck all of it up.
If your friend does not run these types of programs then it could be spyware on his PC.
Get him to buy a good security suite such as norton or mcaffee, and run regular scan with anti spyware programs such as adaware or spybot search and destroy.
Also make sure the servers he's playing on are not on the other side of the world!!! that never helps your ping either!
Hope this info helps man

If the internet connection starts out fine but then starts to slow, you may jhave some sort of malware running in the background. Get Windows Defender and run a scan (The best program I've found that's free). You may also want to run a bot check from Spy-bot S&D. Ad-aware finds some thing that neither of those do so I would also suggest running that if you're seeing a lot of spyware/aware showing up. You can never be too sure.
edit: DrM beat me to some of it but yeah, run some adware/spyware scans.

Sober enough to know what I'm doing, drunk enough to really enjoy doing it
