I have had the same problem with 4 discs , 2 bf2 , 2 sf , if you get in touch with EA support , they will send you a new disk , but this will cost you a small fee of £7.50 . As for it being his dvd drive , i have a brand new Alienware aurora 7500. Well i hoped i could be of assistance

nah my DVD should be ok (i got it at christmas)
i mean, i can run Call of Duty 2 & Ghost Recon:AW fine, even my SF disc seems to be fine, but my bf2 disc(s)
have been wasted in something like 3/4 months!
i think i know whatthe problem is, c if u look at the bf2 disc and compare it to other discs (even  the bf1942 disc!) u will c tht the center of the bf2 disc is just clear plastic, while on the other hand even the 1942 disc is solid (it got reflective stuff on the back of it) and is covered with the cover of the disc.
so yes, the bf2 discs are faulty
if any1 could post a bf2 disc and some other disc u will c my point

My BF2 and SF discs have gone the same way too, i had to buy the deluxe edition for when these discs wont work, and i like to keep everything pristine and always place discs back in the box when im finished with them!! Glad to know im not the only one then but it kinda sucks they give us second rate discs, mind you we did get an unfinished game too so it sorta balance out

From where these guys are from might be the problem.  Maybe they were made somewhere other than where the US versions were.  I have over 500hrs and no problems.  My disk usually stays in the drive or if I need that drive I just flip it over on the top of the case.  I would think putting them back in the case could really do some damage having to POP it on and off the retainer.

Just my thoughts.

Yeah, I have over 500 hours and never had that problem.  Then again, my bf2 disc stayed in one of my computer's two dvd drives for over 6 months.

Now I've got GameJackal and I'm gonna see whether that'll work for bf2.  Will keep you posted.

make a disc image, then permantly store the disc in its case, no need for it

My personal opinion: Get new disks from EA Support, then make "Archival Backups" of them.

Edit: Keep the actual disks near unused, and just use the backups. Never tried it, as my disks have 300+ hours on them, but it *should* work.

That's why I asked how he was storing them.  The case was what I suspected.  I had some jewel cases do this to about 30 CDs one time.

I just use one of those large CD wallets to store all my game disks.  I have an Excel spreadsheet on my hard drive with all of my CD keys and passwords.  Makes going to LAN parties much easier.

You can play both regular and special forces with the special forces disc in the tray.  If your regular discs are breaking, just start the game with the spec forces disc.

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!!!
its not the disc, BUT THE CASE ITS IN!
the dam mecansim in the case is damaging the ring in the disc, causing it to crack
how to stop this: put it in a blank case or CD case

Yeah, I think your CD-ROM drive is spinning the disc too fast.

Thats what I do.

Accept before I had SF, I just mounted the disc, much easier.
