Troy was possibly the most disappointing film I've ever seen. The Illiad is a truely great story and they butchered it, completely.
The Greeks are clearly far cooler than the Romans, though not so expansionist or (predominantly) militaristic. The Romans were well aware the Greeks were cooler than them, so they nicked their religion and mythology and rebranded it (much as they did again later when they stole Christianity off the hippy socialists that origianally practiced it - rebranding it by merging it with existing Roman beliefs to ensure a smooth transition).
Another thing people in this thread seem mixed up about, Alexander was NOT Greek. He was Macedonian.
