Before you go crazy, no, it's not your generic issue, and I read all the stickies, used the search, and tried everything including standing in mashed potatoes throwing salt over my shoulder. My problem is hard to explain without it sounding like lag, but I assure you it isn't, or is a form of it I've never seen. Before I start, I want to say that I have a great computer, and never have a ping higher than 60. Okay, so this is my problem, when I go onto online servers, I have some strange issue, my screen freezes for a sec and if I keep pressing movement keys when it unfreezes I'm in a different spot depending on how long I pressed the asdw keys. also, when flying, if I'm flying downward, I usually freeze, and unfreeze half a foot from the ground with no time to pull up and end up blowing up. Now, I know this sounds like lag, but it has different characteristics, as it is not slow and sketchy like lag, and everything around including the loading screen, graphics, voip, and everything still works great, it's just for this spikey issue. This just started happening this last week after a couple months of fluid bf2 play. Singleplayer works great as well, it's just a problem with online servers I'm having, can anyone help me with this? I wish I could be more descriptive, but I promise it's not generic lag, it's more of a.... viscosity...

do you use wireless broad band

my old wireless gave me a jump, exactly like like what you are describing

solutions-update firmware (sometimes fixes problem)
            -use wires

That used to happen to me! All I did was update my video card drivers and tun all of my graphics to minimum. Then tested it and it worked fine, then turned up a couple of graphics. Fine. Then I turned dynamic shadows on. My computer went "ZOMG WRF n00b OMFG FFS! ARRRRRRRGH" And died, and did the sort of lag, but it wasn't lag! So for me it's just the dynamic shadows, test it on "fraps" or something.

Always go back to the last thing you did before the problem started. In other words have you added to or changed anything on your computer. Spyware can be a bugger for this and so can keyloggers. Do a virus scan (avg or others), an ad and spyware scan (spybot search and destroy) and defrag the hard drive. This is what worked for me when i had a similar problem. Oh yeah latest drivers etc...

Oh and try here... Very good tips..

Yeah i have the same problem except it occasionly happens in single player.  Run graphics on medium so i will try turning dynamic shadows off.

I am having the same problem since last week sometime.  I have an ATI Radeon 9550.  I used to be able to set 3 or 4 video options on medium and still get about 35 to 40 fps.  For the last week I have turned everything down to low or off and I still get the same pausing jerkiness.  The last couple of things I did before it started was Copy my BF2 file to download the 1.4 Betav.2 and I installed a program update for my Webroot spysweeper.  I thought maybe it was from making a copy of a copy for the 1.4 beta so uninstalled and reinstalled BF2 and expansions and that didn't work.  Im thinking my Graphics card might be going bad from overclocking it untill I read this post.

Been there with almost the exact same symptoms. The problem for me was a windows update that had just downloaded and installed. Went back to a restore point before the install and problem magically disappeared.

Give this a try.

I tried the 10 tips, but those are for lag and this isn't really lag

I have AVG and spybot S&D and my computer is as virus/spyware free according to all of my programs

I will try to update my drivers tomorrow morning

Did you update any drivers lately?
Check your book of what might have changed on your PC before this problem started.

I went and used system restore to go back a couple of weeks before the program update to my spysweeper.
The game runs fine on the old version of my spysweeper but causes lag or pauses with the new version.  I went to Webroots website and the new version of spysweeper now requires 256mb of ram instead of 128mb.
I have 1.5gb of ram but it still causes my game to lag.  I tried to go back to my old version but it wont let me download spyware definitions for the old version.  I think im stuck with having to reinstall spysweeper everytime I want to run a sweep and then uninstall spysweeper so I can play BF2.  At least my POS video card isn't bad.

Dask,  System Restore worked for me even though I could have just uninstalled my spysweeper and It probably would have been fine.  Thanks to all for the tips.

Wow, I'm sooo glad I searched for this topic!  I am having the exact same problem.  I have tried EVERYTHING.       At first I thought it was my brand new vid card, but after I RMA'd it and put back my old one I was having the same problem.  I am going to uninstall webroot spysweeper and report back with results.  If this works, I will name my future children Dask and JG1567JG.

Try that, I have wireless and I get the exact same thing that you do.  Random jumps, not jaggedy FPS.

Wow, uninstalling Webroot spysweeper did the trick.  I frickin love you guys.  Online play is as smooth as glass.  You have no idea how many other things I have tried to fix this.  I will +1  everyday for as long as I can remember.

Thanks I am just glad I could help.  I tried System Restore to go back to the old program but it wouldn't let me download new spyware definitions. I really like Webroot Spysweeper but the last program update just sucks ballz.

Yea, but do you have webroot spysweeper installed?  The latest version?  That was our problem.
