they could quit whenever they want. they are a neccessary evil but they always pissed me off when I was deployed.  Those fuckers did pretty much the same thing we do when it came to regular security and patrols with a fraction of the hours compare to us.  plus, they could quit whenever they want and depending on what kind of contract, they could go home for two weeks every three months sometimes.  They make a shit load of money and could quit whenever they want.  I worked real closely with them for a while, especially when for the month and half they tasked my platoon to the Baghdad Sheraton hotel complex (its actually three 1st class hotels)  if you knew how a lot of there shit works and who contracts what, you might get pissed off.  Alot of cronism and piss fights between retired generals, corporate managers, the state department and the Army.  But, it was always a good feeling knowing that if they pissed me off enough I could always say "SHUT THE FUCK UP" the army had authority over all (except maybe the state department).  did I mention that they could quit whenever they want. well, they can.

not neccessarily, they are paid by the Iraqi govt.  but i see your point, now if the Iraqi govt were to be considered a terrorist organization....

I voted second last option.  Not that I care whether they're there or not: I just think mercenaries are the scum of the earth.
