What has Isreal every tried??

You really need to get your facts straight.  In the '50's Ariel Sharon massacred people without provocation.  Qibya comes to mind:

As commander of the notorious Unit 101, Sharon led attacks on Palestinian villages in which women and children were killed.

The massacre in the West Bank village of Qibya, on October 14, 1953, was perhaps the most notorious. His troops blew up 45 houses and 69 Palestinian civilians -- about half of them women and children -- were killed.

There was also Dar Yassin where Ariel Sharon and his troops murdered over 350 people, mostly women and children.

Since the 1950's Israel has been the single largest aggressor, stealing, murdering and displacing people to gain land.  Ariel Sharon was at the forefront of this movement and today is known as a criminal for Crimes Against Humanity.

I have no more sympathy for Israel, the holocaust was bad and wrong, but Israel has elevated itself to the same position as Nazi Germany IMO.  When I say Israel is the country with most sanctions/resolutions against it by UN, I am not exaggerating:

UN Resolutions Against Israel, 1955-1992
1. Resolution 106: "... 'condemns' Israel for Gaza raid"

I'm out of this discussion. I really don't know enough to make a valid point against yours.

Although I stand by the fact that there is more to it.

Well top the bottom line is this.  Right now at this very instance we need our president to stand up and call for a cease fire for the region, and have a chance for deplomacy. Like maybe if Isreal stoped killing civilians and fucking up the infastructor Lebonan will let them fight a ground battle against the terrorist group. Allegedly Lebanon doesn't want them in there country either and is too weak to remove them.

cpt.fass1,

You listing of the UN resolutions is an interesting tale. It misses the point that all of Israel's neighbors have been sanctioned as well...and cumulatively, you'll find that the neighbors have been sanctioned MORE than Israel, but since it's Israel against all comers, it's easy to hide this fact behind such a list.

Next point...you clearly got that list from somewhere else. How do I know this? The list has decent grammar and spelling, which your independent posts lack.

Hezbollah is both a legitamate political party and a terrorist organization, just like Hamas. Both have expressed a primary purpose of wiping Israel from the face of the planet. Israel withdrew from Southern Lebanon and followed UN resolutions, even whilst Hezbollah has attacked them repeatedly. This time, Hezbollah went too far and Israel responded in kind.

BOTH sides of this argument are wrong. BOTH sides have committed attrocities, including attempted genocide. There is no clean side in this battle except the OUTSIDE.

As you can see I posted at the bottom stolen from an other post. So very observant you are. hahaha.

So Nuka list the sanctions from Israel's neighbors at least bring proof with your claims.

Ok and the whole reason for this post is why hasn't bush called for a cease fire? It has gotten out of control over there and I don't think our president calling for cease fire would be a bad diplomatic move.

I've heard time and again Isreals reasons for this is to remove Hezbollah from Lebonan and that Lebonan with thank them for it.

Other countries calling for a cease fire is pointless.  That is the job of the UN.  Let the UN call for a Cease fire and try to work things out.   If bush does it directly he will only bring more criticism upon himself.  What has the US had to say during the security Council meetings?  If the US has supported an talk of a cease fire during the UN meetings than that is enough.  We do not need a order from Bush to say that we do not support fighting in other countries.  Let the UN try (fail).  The only thing bush can really do is threaten Isreal and that is not going to do a damn bit of good.  And Hesbolla could care less what we have to say.

The problem is that we are indirectly involved already.  We supply Israel with with billions of dollars and weapons.

Ok we are definatly involved with this region one way or an other. We are trying to create Capitolist nations over there. We are a major backer of Isreal and the main problem with not voicing a cease fire against Isreal and Hallaboze is we lose creditablity of our real intent of being in Iraq.

Untrue, Israel has more UN sanctions against it than Syria, Lebannon, Jordan, Palestine and Egypt combined - true also if you add Iraq, Iran and Saudi Arabia into the equation. They are one of the three states (along with India and Pakistan - but somehow I'm not nearly so worried by them not signing it) not to sign the nuclear non proliferation treaty (North Korea's a sort of grey area, since they signed it, then withdrew - then signed it again).

Now that is true - but Israel as the larger (theoretically) more responsible state, should take responsibility for sorting this mess out peacefully. Not provoking the Arab states, as they have done for many, many years - check out the UN resolutions condemning the Israeli military parades for example.

The kill ratio I've heard (this is unverified) is 18 Palestinians per Israeli - so perhaps Israel should be held 18x more responsible for the situation. Also, their policy of aggressive expansion and the building of border wall (which is not on their border but way beyond it cutting many Palestinians off from the places of work) have served to piss the Palestinians (as well as the other Arab states) off and have caused the hatred which has led to the majority of the terrorist attacks.

The tears have always been there. They were there when those piece of shit Hezbozo's lobbed missles into Isreal to re-ignite this.

What would your country do if your neighbor had terrorist shooting missle's into your country and started abducting it's soldiers? Lebannon certainly didn't do anything to stop them despite UN resolution 1559.

Hm.... even if I am being extremely sarcastic here, inflicting the need of flaming by third parties against me... I have the urge to quote some of those always prevalent nuke-happy guys: "Nuke them all".... Best would be to nuke the whole middle east.... Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon, Jordania, Israel, Kuwait and all the rest of em... nuke 'em till the area is a solid area of glass.... that way, it will REALLY stabilize the whole region... no more petty wars whatsoever.... ok... the oil will glow in the dark afterwards... but look on the bright side (literally).... You just have to put the gasoline tubes through the headlights of you SUV and you won't ever need new bulbs in there...

The only reason is that  this conflict is still on the go is because it is taking away from the real isues that are going on with the G8 summit. Not that they aren't being discuss there, bet they arn't being discuss "here" and on other forms of media. It may be that the leaders of the free world have decided that this is the issue to "agree" on and force the media to cover the conflict here instead of the issues that they origionally went to Russia to debate

you're absolutely right, lebanon alone has been under UN mandate for years to root out Hezbollah and quit allowing them to operate out of their country, and Hamas and Hezbollah have been shown repeatedly that they are being funded by Iran and Syria, but this amounts to nothing more than proof of the UN's impotence, how many times over the past week have you heard mention of the several thousand UN troops currently stationed on Lebanon's southern border to enforce security over the past few years? Didn't think so, cuz if the press reported on it it would be an admission of the UN's inability to get shit done.

You'll find  that most of these resolutions were telling israel to stop defending itself, why should they follow them if they just allow the murderers to run free and kill again, how many lives would have been saved had Israel not released Arafat and his top brass when they captured them in Beirut the first time (1982 was it?) after being asked to by, guess who, the UN?

he wasn't making fun of him for being blind, and yes I know blind people that get comments like that, they don't care, because they expect it when they wear sunglasses everywhere, and I don't have the time to sit here and dig through millions of useless UN resolutions like moveon.org or whoever did originally for that post with their armies of pissed off cuz their lunch money was stolen in grade school hippy interns, but the most current one regarding Hezbollah/lebanon is 1559, as well as the Taif Agreement

http://www.un.org/News/Press/docs/2004/sc8181.doc.htm
note that in spite of years of "we shall wipe israel from the face of history" rhetoric, this is the first time the UN has ever had the decency to denounce (another useless UN pastime, denouncing shit) such statements

I don't know who these people are, but this was written long before the current spat

Alright he was making fun of him for wearing sunglasses in the middle of a press conference, very unprofessional if you ask me.  I've worked for major corporations and when ever the was a Q and A the head up never singled anyone out.

And research is the ultimate time killer on Internet forums.

presidential press conferences are historically unique, these people practically live with the presidents and have a different relationship than corporate or .......say......municipal/press relations (like a mayor's press conference), Carter, Reagan, Bush 41, Clinton, have all said similar things, often with the press responding in kind (most notably Reagan and Sam Donaldson), it is white house press corp tradition, in fact you'll find the culmination of this behavior in the white house press corp dinners every year

he did try to apologize, at which time the reporter told him it was not necessary
